Here it is, finally. What took so long was the scales. The damn scales. They took forever to draw, forecer to set up, and forever to apply and texturize to the skin, and after all that I dont think they even look very good. Im never doing scales again.
So this is me, as a gamer! I become CrazyGuy and I trade my loincloth for a rubber bikini and don some cool shoulderpads and tech gear. Shown here with my favorite HLDM gun, the .357!
I need feedback.. do the scales. work? I think they make the non-textured parts stand out too much, but oh well.
Check out the "deemer room" (my older logo pic, I change the gun to mp5 and the words to CG for halflife) pic to see my progress with this version of me. This is what I always intended to do with the shoulderpads, but I had trouble drawing em sideways for the first one so the crap thats there came out. But these ones are sweet
Oh and if you pay me I can make you a spray logo for the steam/halflife games just as nice as this. But im not doing scales again ;)

yeah they are. I spent a lot of time and trouble trying to figure out how to get it to match up and work. The scale texture is two layers, a dark and a light, and I tried erasing the dark in some areas and the light in others, tried erasing the light and dark at same time, tried shifting em around, even tried accenting with hilites. Nothing looked good (or it might have, I dont know) but I finally settled on this. The original scale texture goes across the whole of the skin but It just looked wierd the scales going "wall to wall" as it were, so I did this which im positive looks better.
ALSO: Yes the scales do show up in game. AS I worked on this i've been using it both textured and untextured and the scales actually look pretty good.
Anyways the whole scale thing was fucking tedious and still looks kinda strange. Im not doing it until I bump map a 3d model with it

I think most Source textures are 512x512, aren't they? XD
Actually, the size of the scales might work just fine at that resolution. I think the scales look really nice. Far better than the lame "flood fill" scale texture most people do! The only odd thing about them is that the highlights you did don't seem to hit on each scale. That is, it looks like the scales are on a layer above the highlighting. ^^

eh its a long process but basically imagine drawing a grid over the body (making it look kind of like a wireframe 3d pic) then subdividing the squares into diamonds, then rounding off the tips of the diamonds, then making a lite and a dark layer and offseting the lite layer a little down and to the left, then erasing parts of it to make it look more rounded. I COULD do a tutorial, but im not pleased enough with the results yet. Thanks tho.
thats a very awsome picture, the pose is great. the scales are very well done, i like how not all of them are clearly visible, giveing him a really good depth and 3d-ism..if thats the right way too put it o-o.
