From the Astronomy Picture of the Day website- a truly amazing picture of light echoes from V838 Mon. The bright red star in the center suddenly did something never before seen in astronomy that we know! It produced a stealer flash- pretty much it went supernova simply because it felt like it, becoming the brightest star in the universe! Then, just as quickly as it happened, it faded.

That brown stuff that looks like gas or dust? Nope! It's actually light! Neat eh? :D
