But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn,
which shines brighter and brighter until full day.
The way of the wicked is like deep darkness;
they do not know over what they stumble.
which shines brighter and brighter until full day.
The way of the wicked is like deep darkness;
they do not know over what they stumble.

In reference to these verses - light represents good and dark represents evil, within the Bible light and dark have always been used as a metaphor for those things - just as 2 Corinthians 6:14 "Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?". Or 1 John 1:5-6 "This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth."
Not to mention that in the verses previous and post to the one posted for this submission all refer to good and evil - the post having put up Proverbs 4:18-19, here is 4:14-17 "Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evildoers. Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way. For they cannot rest until they do evil; they are robbed of sleep till they make someone stumble. They eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence."
And then 4:24-27 "Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil."
So, in the Proverbs scripture posted, light does represent good and dark does represent evil, the description of the daylight and dark were given as metaphors and not literal light or dark. You may say that *literal* light and dark cannot exist without eachother, but this scripture is not referring to literal light and dark, it is stating that a man of righteousness and wisdom is like a man who walks in the daylight - he know which path to take and can clearly see where to go and what's ahead. As of where a man of wickedness is like a man who walks in total darkness with no light, he cannot see where he is going and what he is doing and what is to come.

One might also suggest that on the other side of the day, the waning sun illuminates deep into the curiosity, whereas the path over the hill becomes dark.
Life is only what you make of it, with a little bit of keen observation, and some planning. Sure, I could stumble upon the fork in the morning and not look to the right. Or I could come to it by random chance in the evening, when the broken tiles of a well-travelled road are not so mysterious.
Or I could come to it and realize that whichever path I take, I need to revisit this palce soon and take the other as well.

The ones who tend to do the most good in the world never seem to be illuminated, but the ones who do the worst are in the eyes of the world. Light and dark, good and evil, there is so much crossover between how they work, under what circumstances they work, and how well they are perceived.
Of course, the kind of light you mean isn't necessarily a physical one. More spiritual.
