Hey folks!
Woo! New stuff!
I finally got a chance to watch the movie Apocalypse Now, and oh jeez, what a movie it was! I 'm not really a person that watches many movies at all, but Apocalypse Now was something i wanted to watch for quite some time.
So ,yeah obviously me writing that down means that this piece was heavily inspired by said movie, and if you haven't seen it you should definately do so.
I kinda tried to make it fitting with what this site is all about, but it just didn't work out well. I didn't wanted to change the form of the helmet (which was kinda more important on asome earlier sketches with a sideview) and the cast shadows wouldn't have looked nearly as interesting as on a human head in my opinion. And since i try to avoid to force stuff into my pieces just for the sake of it, and disregarding it having a negative effect on it, i decided to just go the human route.
I think that's all i have to say for now, enjoy!
Oh, for all people interested in it, i'll ge getting a journal out the next few days for some more detailed updates about what has been going on!

Thank you, yeah it definately isn't a short one, but oh so worth it! And it also does hold up really really well with todays technical and artistic standarts in the medium of film, but then again, i don't watch many movies, so maybe all from that time period still do, but it certainly seemed like it to me.
I kind of prefer doing humans to be honest. I learned drawing with mostly humans as subjects, my job revolves so far mainly about drawing humans. And when pondering about opening an account here , one big argument for myself was "Hey, you should improve with drawing animals and stuff like that!". Unfortunately according to the statistics you seem to be in the minority when it comes to feeling a lack of humans :P
I draw humans too. I completely understand the minority thing. Hell, the dragons I tend to write about tend to have humans as either friends, lovers, and in some cases even relatives.
And if I draw any dragons with other characters in the image, they also tend to be humans too or at least human in appearance even if their colored differently. Because humans take up the majority of what I write about.

Definately the best way to handle it i think. Humans plotted in there now and then make for good variety, and you can do some really fun stuff in terms of storytelling given that they are pretty much percieved as a completely seperate species category alltogether. Also, you write stuff? More in a private setting i presume? Because i kinda didn't know about that.
Well, I just don't post it here because of the format, and I am also attempting to write an original book series and maybe have it published. I posted a preview of the first nine chapters on one site. And I do also write fanfiction, but I hear some of my favorite authors also have done so as well–using fanfiction as a way of practicing how to tell a story. But I've been told I tell a better story when I just use my own material.
I've posted some human images of my own. Need to post more though.

Fair enough. I really don't know much about writing, so i'm probably not the person to know if doing fanfiction is good or not. But if it is similar to fan fiction in art then it can potentiall be very good. At least if it is not all you do, but rather just something here and there. I know at least two or three people who got a very big kickstart due to some fanart they did that got picked up by some studio/went viral.
Ha! not what this site is all about please XD Look at my gallery lol I respect you for this work. The immense amount of detail that you put into this is just amazing. Also was it the original cut or Apocalypse Now Redux? Also if you like that movie and are a gamer, I suggest playing spec ops the line
The normal version. I head the added length in the redux just contains useless faffing around, so i went with the original. Oh and you don't have to tell me about spec ops:P It's kinda what brought the movie on my radar in the first place, and up to this point i think i've bought Spec Ops like 6 times or so to force friends into playing it. xD It was kinda fun to see how close Spec Ops actually is to Apocalypse now. The distress signal of Konrad/Kurtz , the helicopter scene with ride of the valkyries etc.
So many more people need to play spec ops the line. The story is so good and i really hate the reason people didn't buy it--poor multiplayer. It sucks that less people know of it.
The redux edition is alright and some scenes do add to the film, but others don't do anything for it. I think if they didn't have the french plantation addition to redux, it could have been the superior cut. You should at least read the differences on wiki, but yeah that is the superior and a pretty good movie. and when i played spec ops i saw so many comparisons to it, but spec ops had enough different from the movie and the book to have it come off fresh, esp. since the game isn't on water at all XD Don't you think its funny that the director used a large amount of shadows on Brando and even body doubles because he was to damn fat for a soldier? and brando was paid so much for so little screentime XD what other movies do you really want to watch? If you are interested in more vietnam type movies, I'd suggest Hamburger Hill and The Deer Hunter. Platoon is alright too, but I wouldn't recommend Full Metal Jacket as a vietnam movie just because that is really known for its first half but peaks before the recruits even head into vietnam. Don't get me wrong, the whole movie is beautifully shot cuz Kubrick was the director, but the 2nd half is kinda lackluster.

Oh yeah, definately! You, yes you! Who is just skimming through the comments because of boredom, what are you doing? You could be playing Spec Ops right now, go play it! It's cheap and you'll probably play through it in an evening or two!
Yeah, the Brando part really was quite funny, in strange way. But nonetheless he was probably the highlight of the movie, such a stunning perfomance even with just that bit of screentime. I didn't really watch apocalypse now for the vietnam setting though, and it really is just setting to have it play in i feel. It's not really a movie about the vietnam war itself as maybe most of the other vietnam movies are. So ,yeah, setting doesn't really matter to be honest. Next ones i kinda have planned would be The Godfather and Citizen Kane. So i'm kinda walking slowly through the alltime greats i guess. But movies are really difficult for me to watch, because after 30~60 minutes i always think lose focus because i always think i could be doing something instead of just sitting around and watching. It's a bit unfortunate to be honest, because while listening to audiobooks or something like that works fine while working , watching a movie on the second screen really is difficult :/

Actually Apocalypse Now is considered one of the most accurate descriptors of the Vietnam War while being an adaptation of the book The Heart of Darkness.
I still need to watch the Godfather XD I have watched so many of the classics and that is one of the very few that I have watched. I will warn you about Citizen Kane, I have watched it 3 times-the first time I fell asleep while watching it, the second to see it all the way through, and the third was years later to still reaffirm that it is one of the most boring movies I have ever watched, while still being technically perfect as in direction and acting. The actual content is just boring. It is definitely hard to focus on movies when you have other things you have to do. Its much better to be watching movies when one doesn't have to worry about that XD especially on a second screen. I mean I'd say it'd be ok if you were watching trash and having it as background noise, but if you want to genuinely want to watch an alltime great movie, one must have attention to do so. I actually got into watching classics because I was watching absolutely everything, the trashy and the good. This was back in high school (b4 university in the US) and I was like why am I wasting my time in my life like this. My whole family did this and i was going to break from it. So now the only movies I watch are classics and I hardly even watch TV. I have so much other time to accomplish things I want to do in life.

Yes, it i considered one of the most accurate ones, but the message of the movie isn't about the vietnam war specifically, it just fits very well together, that's what i mean :)
Thanks for the warning about CK, i didn't really expected it to be that much of an interesting movie though , just was a different time back then. And the thing about me not being able to watch movies is exactly that, i currently can't think like that, i do both my main work, and the work on commissions that i get from here at home. So my work and freetime are kind of weirdly mixed together. So it is really hard to make myself just sit down and watch something for several hours. Maybe i should start playing MMORPGs again, during those it was always easy to watch a movie on the side and the playing disguises the feeling of "just sitting around not doing anything" xP

Yep, message could have been about any war.
CK wasn't boring because of the time because there were plenty of interesting movies back then, most still more interesting than movies today that have just pretty colors and explosions xD Have you seen Casablanca before? That is an awesome movie. I've also seen plenty of movies outside the US. My German cinema experience is mostly on the German golden age of movies, near the beginning of cinema with nosferau and Fritz Lang, one of the greatest directors ever. No I wouldn't suggest that XD At least good movies aren't nearly as addicting. Maybe try traditional work when watching movies hahaha XD

O man you are missing out on your culture XD German's were the pioneers of cinema. Check out the 1928 movie Metropolis, it was sort of a lost film in the fact that a quarter of thee film had been thought to be lost forever, but they found a print of the original in 2008. Fritz Lang eventually made it to Hollywood.

I know that i am probably missing a lot with not watching many movies, but unfortunately the day has only 24 hours, and some of them are also spent sleeping :/
So ,yeah, there just is to much good stuff and not enough time unfortunately for everything... i can't even imagine what that will be for people in 100 years, they have at least double of that amount of great movies and stuff like that. Likely even way more due to the advanced data storage technologies as there probably dissappeared quite a few movies into the eather :(

I just stay stick to classics. Metropolis is a movie I would recommend to anyone. If anyone wanted to watch a movie with a lot of meaning to it and paved the way for modern cinema. However time is the thing that counts most and any escape should be only be an afterthought ^^ Also someone gave me a book as a present of the 500 movies one should see before they die. I would only recommend less than 100 movies in that book if a person needed to see movies before the died hahaha but you keep up with your magnificent artwork. don't let anything get in your way of your visions. Love your choices in your favorite artist section btw Do you mind if I added you to skype?
Thank you very much, should have fixed that now, and i also kinda noticed that the "body" for lack of a better word, of the weapon was appearantly turned wrong , so edited that as well so that the opening for the casings is facing towards the viewer.
That's what you get when you want to draw accurate pictures about a specific theme you aren't very familiar with, no matter how much research you do, you will overlook stuff xP

I watched this movie last week.I knew what I was getting into, but it went past my expectations.
I don't know why, but I'm a fan of these types of media, the stuff that goes against conventional tropes, things that don't make you feel good about yourself. thats the reason Spec Ops: The Line is my favorite military shooter.
Either that, or i'm unknowingly a fan of Heart of Darkness
