Akuma is a massive art doll I've been working on since January!
Specs:
Latex wings with wire running through them.
Plastic ball and socket armature
Resin feet & claws
Rubber horns
Soft, minky body with silver details and dyed faux fur mane and tail.
Rigid plastic "tentacles".
80cm+ from wingtip to wingtip
Glow in the dark eyes!
Three wings and three tails as per red, he also has two pairs of eyes!
There were lots of parts I had to go back and do again several times, I majorly mucked up the front feet moulds and had to sculpt them three times. His horns were resculpted about five or six times and cast in about eight different materials... Oh man there was a lot of repetition, experimentation and failure! His wings alone took about a month to make because latex takes so long to cure and I didn't want to muck them up.
However the final product is tip top and could probably be thrown out of a window with minimal damage. Even the varnish job is high spec, he got four layers of plasticote and then several passes of dulling spray to reduce the shine! You can wipe his clay, plastic and resin parts down with a wet cloth if he gets mucky and he'll be fine.
Akuma is the biggest and most expensive doll I have ever made. He's also the most durable and satisfying! In some ways his completion has been the first where I've felt really happy and confident with the outcome. I'm definitely buying a bottle of bubbly tonight and celebrating...
There will be a video of him being posed on my YouTube some time soonish. I'll update this deviation when it's up
