No, PLEASE let Laurie Anderson be ruined! Her song "Oh Superman" literally gave me nightmares when I was just a pup! Oh God, don't let her take me with her "long arms," mommy! OH GOD!!! NNNNOOOOO!!!

No, seriously, her music was innovative and new when it was released, but that doesn't make it good. The only "music" for a good portion of the aforementioned "Oh Superman" is nothing more than a metronome, and though her over-distorted voice may have influenced later generations of musicians, it doesn't add anything to the musicality of the song. Perhaps that was what she was going for, what with the song being a satire of American society at the time and all that, but it still doesn't make her a good artist. She was noteworthy for changing entire genres... But I still don't like her stuff very much.

Anti-Anderson rant aside... I enjoyed Zenuel's amazing music as usual. The occasional use of chromatic scales was somewhat unorthodox for him, I think (I haven't listened to his whole discography yet, but I'm working on it! :3), but a dissonant half-step here and there seems to have fit in well with the mood of the song itself, so I appreciate it nonetheless! ^w^

hmm, you really wanted to say this? I bet you don't even get what her music was about. You have to know about the time and context about her music, but I also have to guess you aren't much for lyrics. It was sorta about American society, but it was more about the iranian hostage conflict and the such-that specific song at least. Most of her songs are stories told in distinct ways and this story revolves around superman (the guy that picks up the phone), mother, and the judge-being the man of authority. Now if you notice some of the lyrics have double meanings, such as "smoking or nonsmoking?" referring to dead bodies after a bombing, or the whole entire statement of the postal office code basically stating no one can really stop the planes. Her music actually painted a picture of what the beginning of the 80s were and that is that marked a transitional phase of the US. Her song Big Science (also the name of her most famous album) really shows off this drastically. Really most of her album big science has deeper meaning than whats on the surface. Its like the video game silent hill 2 (not its sequels) the monsters reflect the person seeing them yet this isn't explicitly told to the player. They have to figure it out by reading between the lines and hearing other characters go crazy seeing other things that the main character never sees but only if the player is smart enough to piece it together.

Hey, man, I'm all for symbolism and all that, but that doesn't mean she made good music. I greatly respect her intuitiveness, her clever wordplay and her double meanings, and plenty of other aspects she exemplified and even pioneered in her time. I do not, however, enjoy listening to her particular style of music. I personally prefer music with a nice, melodic lead, at the very least. I did not get even that when I listened to Laurie Anderson. I admit that she was a wonderful artist, but in my personal opinion, she was not a very good musician. (There's also the minor grudge against her for giving me nightmares when I was younger! XD Lol)

Anyway, that's what I think, at least. Of course, it's perfectly fine for us to agree to disagree on such a trivial matter. Besides, I don't think we should be cluttering Zenuel's comments section with such an off-topic conversation! (Sorry, Zen! ^^')

Not very good compared to what though? Her music is basically poetry put to sound just like the origins of rap from The Last Poets. However compared to Nina Simone she isn't very good at singing, however is she even singing at all?

Case in point: I personally do not like rap either. I like melodies more than just simple words. (And rap originated far earlier than The Last Poets. Like, centuries earlier. Basically when someone first decided to talk rhythmically.) If Laurie Anderson isn't actually singing (changing the tone of her voice to fit the notes of a scale), and her background beat is little more than a simple metronome, then her "music" can only be called music in the broadest of terms.

Again, if you really wish to continue this conversation, I suggest we continue it elsewhere, so that we do not annoy Zenuel with our pointless squabbling. I'm sure he must be plenty annoyed with us already from this...
