Adding some sort of framing story back in might be nice if it could be worked out to fit. Something to give some justification for why the final boss is a cyber version of Heracross. Maybe something silly like, Charmeleon discovers his Pokemon save file has been corrupted by a bug (!) and all his Pokemon are gone, so he has to fight the bugs to get them back. Or maybe something a bit more insinuative but still PG?
It would be nice to have an excuse for Cyber Heracross making faces at you again.

It's a hard game but there's very little luck to it! For level 8 obviously you want to aim for those big square weak spots, you can get to powerup level 5-6 if you hit all those soft spots. For level 9, the key is to aim up the sides and get a lot of balls stuck up top! lightning and psychic are best, since on-hit abilities like fire/rock won't work while the balls are stuck. Good luck!
http://www.livestream.com/argonvile.....1-677c6c7287e2 Here's a video if you want to see how I beat levels 8+9
yeah!! i was trying to think of a small buff to the psychic powerup since nobody liked it... and it just occurred to me of the idea of having that "splash" effect, and massively reworking it to be water-based!! it's all so obvious now plus, now you can see the "high-water-mark" so the psychic effect isn't such a surprise!
I'm genuinely surprised that psychic seems to be disliked - it's my second favorite out of the original set (ghost's my fave). Its defensive power at high levels is pretty much unmatched, which allows you to throw 20 pokeballs out there with reckless abandon and just launch the things at high speed constantly. It isn't the fastest way to win, but it's one of the safer ways. Probably the biggest danger of it in my opinion is that if you have 20 pokeballs out, if you grab another power by accident you're pretty much fried, but that's true of a lot of other powers.
i know, what the heck!!! psychic is by far the safest way to clear a level, this guy said "it's worse than your default paddle", that's the craziest thing i ever heard. you don't even need to get to level 12 -- psychic at level 4 is enough to safely control 20 balls if you're careful with it.
yeah, ghost is the strongest out of the original set -- but it doesn't work QUITE as well in this new version, because of the new level layouts!! these new levels require more strategy, where the optimal route is often something complex like, "carve out those few blocks on the right, so you can bounce it into the top part of mankey's head"... if you get an early ghost powerup, you can't use those kinds of strategies, and you're left dealing with tough blocks right from the start, which suuuucks
my favorite powerup out of the original set is fire -- they're both very reliable, and even at level 2 you can do some good damage to the blocks. and if you can get them to level 12, they tear everything up and never leave blocks standing! the other powerups are all more situational -- ghost is bad right at the start of a level, and ghost is terrible on a boss... lightning is terrible at the end of a level, grass is terrible if you can't hit "critical mass", ice and psychic are weak offensively... rock is great, but in the original game it was very annoying how your big rocks would get trapped at the bottom of the screen by little pebbles! i hated that....

Oh yeah, another big thing I liked was the improvement to the rock powerup. Now that one WAS worse than the default, in my opinion, just because rocks would always bounce off of each other regardless of size, so you'd wind up with a completely untenable situation in the lower half of the screen if you had like more than four balls out. I think the tweak to make it so that smaller pebbles can't get in the way of bigger rocks totally transforms the power into a very usable one. I like it more than fire now personally.
What's the change to ice? It seems roughly the same, did the "shield" part get bigger? It's not the sexiest powerup but I like the balance of offense and defense it provides, and it was one of the more useful powerups against the boss, I thought.

i made multiple changes to ice, some good some bad:
* balls don't always eat away at your ice-paddle anymore! now it's more like 50% of the time, so it's better defensively.
* the ice paddle doesn't increase in size as quickly -- its size used to grow like 5-7-9-11-13... now it's more like 5-6-8-9-11...
* the hail stones are more powerful -- they do about 50% more damage than they used to. if you get a lot of hailstones going, you'll clear a level in about 30-60 seconds now.
i agree, ice and water aren't my favorite powerups either! but as long as you keep a chain going, you'll never have those horrible penalty chains -- sometimes, even when rock is going well, i'll just miss so many rocks in a level that it wasn't even worth it for me! ha ha...

Oh sweet, I was hoping there'd be a G-rated version of this around.
I really liked what you did with the Psychic power up. It feels like a dumbed down Love from the previous version, but it's rather powerful now. (Helped me blitz through Level 9 on Hard once) IT STILL LIKES TO BREAK MY CHAINS THOUGH
And someone mentioned that the Water PU was essentially the old Psychic PU. They're right, but for someone like me, it's tons easier to read too. Now I can actually use it!
Speaking of PUs, though. Either it's my luck, my mouse, or maybe just a lack of skill... but it seemed a bit harder to dodge chain-breaking PUs during my attempts to re-1cc Hard on most levels. Plus, it seemed like there were fewer powerups during the later levels -- this would make Ghost naturally much riskier to use, since it's still really slow to start. I once went three to four without a single PU drop, hahaha :(
Not that the above is necessarily a bad thing, though. I felt like it led me towards choosing when to hold onto or when to break a PU chain. Plus, with the randomized level layouts, one has to decide the best PUs to use anyways.
Overall, I think you did good in making Hard harder. I'ma try clearing Expert again, but this time using Bonus #2 while I play hahaha
P.S. Three of my favorites died this time. ~nEvEr ForGEt Ur HomIEzZz...~

yeah, that's exactly right -- since there's no "love" powerup in this one, i just had psychic take on its effects, so that i could still have psychic in the game... you're right that it's a lot weaker than the old powerup!
glad you're enjoying the new water powerup! i changed the slowing effect so it'll work better with high ball speeds, i think that makes a little difference.
powerups are still the same -- they still fall with the same frequency, every 3 bricks that you destroy releases exactly 1 powerup. when i first tested this version, it was way too easy because there were lots more bricks. you'd have 500-600 bricks on a level, so once you hit your stride you'd easily hit 7-8 minutes on level 1, and 10-11 minutes on level 2! i fixed this problem by increasing the size of the bricks (if you noticed those weird vertical/double size bricks) and by subtly worsening the time powerups. 1s and 2s are a little more common than they used to be on the harder difficulties.
have fun with bonus #2, ha ha! i don't do a lot of animation so it was fun experimenting with that, i wanted to have something cute and over-the-top silly for that one...

this would remove most of the interesting decisions/challenges of the game, which revolve around making sacrifices to keep your powerup chains going, or aiming balls away from powerups! although you're right, that would be much much easier. on many levels, you could catch every powerup that drops and still max out!
Well no, you lose one or two levels of the powerup if you catch another.
I'm just annoyed at how a single second of attention lapse can lose me a near-fully powered up Type cause, for a few moments, I wwas more concerned with actually breaking the blocks above than powering up, and suddenly all of my balls change type and I go from level 8 Water to level 1 Rock.

Not necessarily. If you lose 2 levels per other type you get, you'll eventually reach level 0 (or -1, which would hopefully correct to 0). That would then allow you to switch to a new powerup.
WIth the max level here being 12, that'd only take 6 (Or it could be dropped to 3 if you took away 4 levels) nonmatching types to eliminate the current type, then one more to switch to the new type.
I guess I'm just not understanding the logic behind building up this massive amount of levels if you're just going to switch out of it midlevel.

With lightning, the optimal strategy is to have 1 or 2 super-high-speed balls; but when there's only 1 brick left, it can take you a long time to destroy it. So, the best strategy involves switching into ghost if it's available, or leaf/psychic if you're confident that it'll be enough damage.
Bonus #3 is cool too!!! You just have to beat expert mode normally -- it's OK if you lose again and again, just as long as you clear level 10 eventually.
He's white, because he's an homage to this little guy! I played around with making him yellow, but he didn't look as good that way.

YeY! The keyboard :)
Well, i like everything, but there is one lil thing id like to suggest, if you don't mind x) I used to see that in other games, so maybe it also would be possible in here %) Like a speed up for a keyboard. .. like shift+left/shift+right %) so it would move as fast as mouse, when you move it fast :)
Anyway, i like that it has a keyboard option now :)

no, flash doesn't let you restrict the cursor. this is for security reasons -- imagine how dangerous it would be if you navigated to a malicious web page and it moved your mouse to the "OK" button, or made your mouse invisible??
if the problem is "your mouse is moving off to the side" then that doesn't really make sense! if your mouse is off to the right -- then the paddle is in the correct place. and moving it back to the left, to move your paddle, will force it to re-enter the gameplay area
if your problem on the other hand is, "your mouse is moving too high or too low", then yeah that makes sense because moving the mouse left/right will ignore your commands. if this is the problem, then full-screening the game will prevent this from happening. you can play the game in full screen by clicking the "Download" link up top, which should open the flash file in its own page in your browser
the third option is to use the keyboard controls (left, right, and space bar) and the fourth option is of course, to keep track of the position of your cursor -- since your cursor should remain visible while playing the game

That is a good point there. That would be very very bad.
Oops that is the problem, i have my mouse set to full speed cause of some other game advent and you need a fast mouse. I will try cutting my speed on half then play it later when i have time..
Thank you very much for the info.

Usually when I play a flash game the moment I've done everything in it I simply move on... and yet this one keeps bringing me back in. I think it's because of how the game actually plays compared to other brick-breaking games. Not having lives but rather a constantly ticking timer and the ability to deploy multiple balls at once, not to mention the variety in power-ups really mixes things up.
Sure you could play a stage safely with only a lone ball or two, but that clock is ticking and if you take too long you won't have enough time for later, more challenging stages. Going too fast however can also be a bad thing as having too many balls at once could backfire. This, combined with all the various power-ups, opens up some surprising strategy elements in a simple yet addictive arcade game. Congratulations are in order so I salute you. :D
Even now I still enjoy playing this here and there as I haven't found any other brick-breakers that have interesting game mechanics like this one does. All that's really missing is a catchy tune in the background, but that's only a small detail.
On a side note I've got the endless mode unlocked and so far I've only managed to complete around 50 stages. I'm afraid to ask but how many Pokémon are in this game? If there's a stage for every Pokémon included... ^_^;

yeah great! wow!! sounds like you're really appreciating the game fully, that's awesome. the levels all have their own little strategy, as far as where you want to aim for! finding the fastest way to whittle away at the soft spots is key to building up powerups, especially in the harder levels.
congrats unlocking the endless mode, that's a real accomplishment!! wow!! great work!
how many levels are there huh? hmm i can't remember... but... let me know if you get stuck on level 100!! it's super duper impossible, if you want to beat it yourself you should start from level 91 and rack up as much time as you can! it took me like 4 or 5 tries even with that strategy, i had to build a strategy for each of the 9 preceding levels too, i figured out i could earn back a lot of time back on level 95 and that a few levels were stronger with leaf instead of psychic, or that i should start with lightning and switch to ghost -- stuff like that. if you give up on it i won't blame you, i can give you the password to level 101!

I used to play a lot of old arcade games like Breakout when I was but a kid so naturally I got good at those kinds of games. I'll happily offer some of my strategies if you're interested.
As for endless mode trying to get a full band of Pokémon playing isn't going to be easy. Best I've got so far is just Snivy and Munchlax (really hope I spelt those right) with a little musical performance together. I'm guessing every five consecutive wins unlocks a new band member when you do eventually run out of time since that seems to be the case. I've yet to get a full band but one day it'll happen.
I also have a rough idea as to how many levels there are. Considering there are Pokémon that appear whose ID number goes beyond 300...... Oh no, I'm just cringing at the thought. If you've made a stage for every Pokémon then that means I'm going to lose a good year or two off my life. Thanks for that. XD
Oh well, I do love the challenge. I'll get to level 101 and go beyond that, don't you worry.

yeah you guessed correctly, beating 20 levels unlocks the full band! and there might be a couple other tiny extras on that screen too. i had a lot of fun with that one just extra stuff to look at if you get a good streak. it's not easy to keep a streak going though, since the game gets stingier with time powerups the longer you survive!
snivy and munchlax are cute aren't they!! munchlax the chubby bass player. and snivy on his flute! i wonder what other band members there are...
good luck on your journey!! have fun with it!

oh it's an absolute nightmare, don't worry about it! you don't unlock anything fun or cool by beating expert in one life. but --- if you manage to beat the boss on expert, Bonus #3 is actually quite nifty!! good luck!!
if you get frustrated or angry with the game, there might be a secret code you can type at the main menu to unlock everything! and, you can type the code again to bring the game back to where it was -- it won't forget your progress. it'll even unlock the crazy bonus mode which you get for beating expert in one life. it's up to you if you want to cheat or not! or if you just maybe want to cheat once to try it out, and then uncheat and try to unlock it for real.
unfortunately i don't remember what the code is -- but maybe you can guess it! i bet it's something really easy to guess. like REALLY really easy -- i bet you might even guess it on the first try!
