Sweepstakes Hobbyists Fighting the Odds

As I recall, the article behind this illo was about a gent who entered every contest he could find, scouring every newspaper, magazine, circular, and piece of junk mail that he came by for more contests. The bottom line seemed to be that if he entered enough of them, he'd be bound to win some. My thought was, "get a life", but maybe this was the one he got? In any case, how do you illustrate such a thi ng? I got the idea of him at his table, addressng a stack of entries, and the entries evolving from file cards (that he filled out), to envelopes ready to post, to money he'd won. Trying to picture the sort of character who lived for mail order contests was also aninteresting challenge. I pictured him as almost elderly, weak chinned (weak character?), and fussy enough to have several pens and a pocket protector. Somebody we might call a nerd today.

I've bought one or two lottery tickets in my life and I don't think there's anything wrong with it, so long as one knows that all that money is buying is a nice daydream.
