Beacuase with C4 it depends on what you want to blow up and how much C$ do you want to use and how? Don't forget, C4 is mallable, so depending on the situation you might want to use less or more. Just my guess. I'm not a specialist with that stuff.

Because one of the first things you learn is not to store detonators with explosives. C4 is pretty safe stuff, gunfire won't set it off. Detonators are unsafe; all sorts of stuff sets them off. So, you don't store them with explosives.

You can actually set C4 and similar explosives on fire and it'll burn like plastic not explode. As explosives go it's pretty safe unless you actually want it to explode.

That's not completely true. While you can burn c4, burning c4 is significantly easier to detonate. So much so that nearby detonations are more likely to cause sympathetic detonations.

That's what I was told when I did a military training taster course a few years ago and PE4 is very similar C4. Plus, I know mythbusters isn't perfect science but they did an experiment with burning C4 trying to set it off and basically couldn't without using a properly detonated explosion.

The "lever" (technical name) shouldn't even need to be tied, they're supposed to be held down to prevent triggering. Releasing the lever lets a spring work and start the detonation sequence.

I'd have been tempted to put a few blocks of that C4-like stuff near the grenades. It's not guaranteed, but a grenade might set it off.

It might JUST set it off if you were luck, but there's that much of it that you'd get a lot of chances at getting lucky.

generally, if you want to do that, you pack the explosive around the grenade. It'll definitely detonate it.

I understand the different types of grenade and characteristics of each.
The grenades have a domed top, but a flat bottom. That would make for a weird pressure profile that would most likely act like a slightly shaped charge. Not what you're looking for in a grenade.

While grenades do contain plastic explosives, there is not enough plastic explosives in even 10 grenades to damage that pillar, even if it was concrete

And I know he doesn't understand how explosives work, if he stuck that chunk of plastic explosives on top of the grenades, there is a huge, huge, huge chance the shockwave of the grenade would be enough to set off the plastic explosives. That would indeed blow up the pillar, even if it was steel it would greatly damage it.

Here's a honestly better question, why doesn't he just stick all the grenades on the boxes of plastic explosives?

The second floor caving in would do nothing to plastic explosives, which are designed to be incredibly stable and being able to survive bullets passing through it and even fire. Which is why you need to use a blasting cap to detonate it.

At least the grenades setting off, by the looks of it several TONS of plastic explosives, would be enough of a concussion wave to level the entire warehouse, and possibly the one next to it
