Here's a look at the idle stance I animated for the character Matilda from

Actually, it's kind of a double-edged sword. Let's compare Chun-Li to Cammy for example:
In a real fight scenario, Chun-Li has numerous bits of cloth and places on her outfit where she could easily be grabbed and yanked; she could be tugged by her hair buns, the skirt of her dress, or that big ribbon on the back. Now look at Cammy. Skin-tight unitard with combat boots and a beret. There aren't many places you can get a good hold of Cammy with little effort.
While skimpy outfits in fightin' games may be "a dumb stereotype", sometimes less clothing or skin-tight clothing isn't a bad idea at all!
That aside, I'm pretty sure sobana was jokin' anyway. *I* kinda was~ :V

Not all of 'em. Its mostly the ones who have huge hanging out tits that get the most attention, which causes the stereotype in the first place.
Then you look at characters who actually dress conservatively, such as Nina, Leo, Alisa, and Asuka from Tekken, and they get less attention because of it. Or even in Street Fighter, we have someone like Makoto, who wears her full Dojo Gi, and is called an 'Angry Little Boy' because of how ungirly she looks.
