I Photoshopped the last appearance I made of the Roxikat fursuit from Morphicon 2011.
I wanted a pic of the ol' suit that wasn't so creepy. I kinda like going in and editing the face expression. Just a few things moved around really. It makes me think that it's possible to redo the face someday to be more like this.

I think what stopped me from wearing Roxi is that I just didn't want to make anyone uncomfortable anymore. I know there were way more positive responses than negative, but I just let the negative ones get to me. Someday, I think I can do a better job of making her more funny and maybe more lovable rather than fetishy. As I get older, I think that'd be a better direction to go in.
I can tell you the moment that I started to get a different idea about fursuiting in general.
A little girl probably around 5 years old ran up to me and hugged my legs at Anthrocon. I knelt down awkwardly and said hello and meowed and felt kind of flustered. I was with Tilt and following his lead with being silly and toony and interacting with kids and families. Meanwhile I'm terrified that I'm mentally scarring the kid. The dad was nearby and seemed to be completely okay with me, surprisingly. I've seen lots of parents tug on their eager kid's arm in a cautionary "Not that one, kiddo."
Anyway the little girl said "I like your boobs!" I was an awkward mess, saying "Th-thank you!" But my head was suddenly filled with "What are you DOING, John?"
Still, I have a feeling that at room parties I'd feel comfy in drag. I think my artist friends would be cool with that, but I can't think of a way to do it without looking really gross. A lot of Roxikat is supposed to be looking fun and cute. I'm 38 now and I'm trying to re-evaluate how healthy it is to try to look young and cute and immature for a character.
I liked wearing Roxi around fans and artist friends that know me personally. They were the most supportive and forgiving. I concede that I wasn't as fetishy looking as a fursuiter wearing a bondage harness and a ball-gag, but I definitely didn't look family-friendly, no matter what I did.

The sexual proportions can do that unfortunately. And I don't think Roxi would ever really work with the 'mascot' feel that most fursuits have. (Unless it is REALLY well crafted. I have seen some Japanese fursuiters pull off the look in spades.)
Just remember that she's just a character. You can act, look, and be immature and cute for a character like her. Age is just a number, after all. If you can pull it off and if it's just for fun at a con, I say go for it. Might actually be a lot healthier for you than you think.

One costumer that has embraced everything girly and sexy about their suit and makes TONS of Youtube videos is
superbabsy123
They don't do multiple sized boobs on a regular basis, and she even has nipple bulges in her suit.
And thank you! I think the jacket has helped out the look a lot.

Wearing clothes and talking is something I always try to do in suit. The only time I don't talk in suit is during Fursuit Games, because it's about team playing and blending into their rules. Heh, I've worn Roxi to a few anime cons in sailor fuku because I thought of her as cosplay too. You girls get to wear the coolest stuff!
To be perfectly honest, it is entirely possible to make the facial features work like that. Sure it will take some intense fine crafting, but a good 3D model to base it on would work wonders into making a smoother, easier to approach face of Roxi.
I know you have plenty of crafting experience yourself, have you thought about getting padding that smooths out the thighs to curve them up a bit? Once again, some 3D modeling can make experimenting with the shapes that much easier. I recommend getting a free 3D program and giving it a go yourself. Or getting some help, either way. :3

One of the things I definitely wanted to improve was to smooth out the lumpiness of the legs. But there's a separate piece of foam for each bulky muscle group wrapped in fabric underneath the spandex. I'd have to cut into each block, remove the foam and try to smooth them out and then restitch them up. Since I haven't been able to afford to go to cons in 2 years, and my sewing circle of friends moved away, I haven't given myself the time to work on it.
I have been working with a free modeling program called Sketchup for unrelated architecture artwork. Thanks for the thoughts on it. One of the ideas is to just cover the suit with fur to hide all the seams. The smooth look is too fetishy looking.

Well it'll be a bit difficult to hide the fetishy look, considering the other proportions that the suit has. I don't think that should be a main concern. (Even if she still looks fetishy, she seems SFW enough to go around in cons.) Still, fur may be helpful, but it might give off a bit too much of a Mascot look to her, or make her head contrast the rest of her body. If you do find fur that is short enough to keep her smooth, then that would be the best happy medium. Don't want her looking like a shag carpet. : P
I would recommend Blender for the modeling, or ZBrush if you can afford it (Or find other means to get it.) ZBrush feels a lot more like sculpting and is easier to get into for 2D artists, while Blender is free.
As for the stitching, I didn't know you were trying to make sure to emphasize every muscle in the legs. That's an impressive feat! I suppose it would be more seamless if the foam molded to your legs a bit more, but that would take a lot more effort to accomplish, and precise measurements of your legs.
Still, I love suit modeling like this. It's so fascinating how much work goes into I know that someday Roxi will make a comeback, and will look better than ever!

I think a fluffy Roxxy-cat would be amazing! You could definitely play around with padding more freely as the fur tends to absorb most bulkiness. If you were to accentuate features, like making the eyes a little big, the muzzle small and dainty, the ears big, then play around with padding/shapes for the body with foam and cheap fabric mock ups, I think she could be just as great- fluffy. :)
The very first suiting video I ever saw was Zig Zag and Roxikat get censored. It was, and still is one of the most absolutely joyous times of my life, I laughed so much that I thought I might die. I've always wanted to be able to make others smile and laugh that much, and your Rokisuit along with others were the driving force that made me love fursuiting and want to get one of my own.
I'm very sorry to hear about those bad things, but it's still great to see Hoss running about the conventions I get to attend. :)

You are truly an inspiration. I love curvy fursuits, I'm planning a second fursuit, just as curvy as yours.
I was reading all the comments and I'd like to add my 2 cents to subject... May I?
IMO, your fursuit does not bring to me a feeling of fetish or anything related. I see a fun character, a bit super-hero like, having fun around (I saw some of your videos). There will be always people who will not undestand a fursuit or the entire furry movement. This is pretty normal. Don't take these few people let you donw.
Somehow, I just love to have fun with bigger/curvy suits, and I see more the comic side of this than a sexual one. At least here in Brazil, most of the people would see Roxicat as a fun character than a sexual-related stuff... We do not have problems with curvilineous fursuits at all. (I wish you could show up here with Roxicat.)
And about age, when you wear Roxicat, you are not your real life persona anymore... And characters never gets old...
Somehow, I hope you rethink about your decision. Think about it. There are tons of people missing your appearances. =]]
Have a nice day!
Greetings from Brazil

I read your story earlier. A word of advice is to maybe wear less revealing clothing, when you are out in public non convention space just to ease the minds of the parents. As far as Roxi the fursuit, I advise making her from fur/fleece instead of spandex and a mask. Fursuits with resin masks tend to be abit creepy. Otherwise I think she is cute!
All I'm going to say is this...
Shi blurs certain gender boundaries in ways no other toon does, which opens certain doors in the brain, that once opened, might not ever be closed again.
I'm not trying to alarm any one but the reason I act so strangely around you dude. Shi has a tendency to walk off the page.
shi got off the page & I've never seen a toon do what shi did, but it was a literal nightmare. Shi blew my mind, she came off the page... shi roughed me up... she got... literally... grabby... shovey... stompy... stuff would fall to the ground... car alarms would go off... cartoons don't do that, no other cartoon has done that to me before & it was...traumatizing... to say the least.
But it's something I must deal with on my own. It happened & there's nothing I can do about that accept let it go & allow it make me a stronger person & is in no way your fault. But it was seriously traumatizing. I'm not sure if you realize this but shi's not like other toons. There is something Very different & very unique about Roxikat.
I appreciate you making the new suit less scary & I hope you have a great year
2015
Take care
