The Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy has this to say about the subject of Quicksand;
Quicksand is a highly viscous substance comprised of partially liquified sand, dirt, mud, or whatever substance seems appropriate. It's usually encountered on beaches, in jungles, or wherever the writer wants it, as well as on the planet Aakazam, which is populated entirely by busty amazons. On the planet Aakazam, all the quicksand is connected, and is, in fact, all part of the same creature, which resembles a planet-spanning slime mold. The Amazons, of course, have no idea about this fact, and chalk up all the accidents to bad luck while breeding asexually.. And so the ecosystem cycles onward!
