Though time's been scare, I've been working at colouring Nyrri. Original description here:

The line art is by the awesome
teaselbone, who was kind enough to provide me the layered PSD file as well. I had to do a lot of line clean up for the colouring (it was just a sketch, after all) then started to lay down the flat colours taken directly from character screen shots in the game. The one change I'm making from the actual game is that I'm giving her paw pads a little bit of colour. I figure since her nose is pink, why not have a bit of that in her pads too - it's sexy. ^_^
So still got a lot of work to go - background colours, then shading/lighting, but slowly getting there. Thought I'd share with y'all so you could have a peek. Also that I do actually try to do art... I'm just stupidly slow. XD

Yar - love that claw too. Harder to see in this pose, but a Charr pic that Iggi did recently really shows it off well:

And thanks - long way to go yet though. Will be worse if I start obsessing over shading details.

Oooh. Yes, I'm very good at colouring. I've been using Photoshop for 18 years, and GIMP for about 10. I just don't do it much as it takes a great deal of time. I also do draw myself, but that's something I'm not very good at, and definitely not very quick at. Writing will likely always be one of my primary abilities.
I prefer to use pixlr (http://pixlr.com/editor/).
Is free, on line(no need to install) and have everything I need.
But this GIMP, I never heard before...

GIMP stands for GNU Image Manipulation Program, and it's also free. Originally it was for Linux/Unix but it's available for Windows and MAC now too. Like Photoshop, it's very big, powerful, and has a steep learning curve, but it's definitely useful. Also like Photoshop, much of it's value comes in the plugins you can get for it. All of the colouring and cleanup I've done of this picture of Nyrri was done in GIMP:

Probably - this was info I got reading some character background and development stuff from ArenaNet, who created the race for the Guild Wars games. They didn't specifically mention the frequency range. Humans (with good hearing) can typically hear sounds from 20 to 20000 Hz, sometimes a touch higher and lower. I would think Charr's lower range might go to 10Hz, maybe even lower, and the upper range could be above 60,000Hz, like a domestic cat.
Sweet. Audiophile is a good thing! I'm not sure what the trouble is with high-pitched human voices, again ArenaNet never went into detail about it. What I figure is that they have an auditory gap or trough somewhere around the 500 to 2000Hz range. With human voices, particularly females, that would knock out the main body of the voice, leaving only the bassier elements along with the high frequency fricative and labial pronunciation notes.
Iggi did a fantastic charr commission highlighting that issue with gaming, where a female charr is freaking out at her human teammates 'cause she can't discern what the heck they're screaming about:

Sorry for the late reply, I'm feeling horrible but I gotta stay strong for a friend who needs me >.< Oh but I'm so tired I feel like I'm about to faint... damn...
Yeah Audiophile is pretty much about how well you trained your ears...
Hmm yes OwO I understand... That picture sais it all, ahahah! ^^ I get the idea now... Thank you! And sorry my comments aren't very constructive... only I'm feeling like shit right now >.<...

Ah don't worry! These feelings are whatever is left of a major depressive disorder I've been through in the past few years. i'm still recovering... But I'm staying strong.
Awww thank you! But I'm not like this because I want to... it's because of what I am :) I always help if I can... it comes naturally, it's not a choice :) It just happens...
Awww... I like comments too! Only... very few people out there actually like chatting :( But yeah... :-3 I can say I'm obsessed with audio equipment. I'm poor... so "audiophile" sounds like something impossible to achieve for someone like me... but I did get some audiophile components afterall... :-3 it's all about hard work and dedication...

:) My parrents are like this too... heh.
Yeah... exactly... The last thing I got was a dream which came true. It's a audio amplifier, this: http://www.furaffinity.net/full/13535243/ ... I enjoy it so much... when I first got it I sat there listening to it for 7 hours in a row... I wanted one for years. Only they're... so rare :( But I got my hands on one x3 ... yup...
I was depressed but you know what, life is worth living. You gotta work hard, and eventually you'll reach your goals.

Yeah when you see dB you're talking about a variable attenuator, which makes your preamp work so much better with the power amp. The current drive is a protection circuit, it protects your speakers and amp in case the headroom is exceeded for example. All amps have this kind of curcuit.
Yeah both MM/MC x3... And the phono preamp sound soo... alive
This is one of the very best technics integrated amps out there. And it sounds as such... ;)

yeah and external atomic reference to clock the samples... I think a 24 bit sample has some 16,7 million level points in total... that's a much stronger sample. I've done studio work and mastering too, and played around with resolutions. However, some of it gets lost once you go mp3... even if you compress at 320kp/s there is still not enough data going in. The higher end of the spectrum gets lost, plus some of the detail... For optimum quality, you can go FLAC. That only cuts out whatever silence there is in each sample, and leaves the audible data intact. It's still compression but it's lossless. FLAC is good only takes up so much more space...
I need to buy myself an external DAC one day :3 It's so much better than plug in sound cards. I've got the soundblaster x-fi titanium HD audiophile sound card, with swappable opamps and ASIO. I'm pleased with it, but a external DAC would give me so much more room...
To be honest, digital is actually becoming better and better. The best analog medium out there is tape, but well... tape requires raw talent. And that compression sounds so... awesome... there are quite a few simulators out there which come really close but not quite like tape. The best you can get is a hybrid between analog (tubes and other things) and digital. Digital editing is required if you want to get anywhere today, the industry is a lot more demanding that it ever was.
Vinyl wise... Well, I'm honestly a fan of dynamic sound... Vinyl is very compressed obviously, otherwise your stylus would jump all around your disc... And that compression... doesn't always appeal to me >.< But I do listen to records every now and then...
I have this pioneer RG-9 dynamics expander which I'm using when I need it... it's not a 3 band like the DBX one but still... it does something. And has cute green meters...

*nodsnods* All good points. :) I always get my music in FLAC whenever possible, or appropriate. The only problem I have with FLAC is that some people build their music out of 16 bit samples, so FLAC only preserves that quality. Its when it's cut at 24 or 32 bit and then recorded to FLAC that you really get the quality from it.
To think this started as a discussion about Nyrri's ears. XD

Well... to be honest, most of my music is mp3. I'm not always going technical, I'm just enjoying music x3 I've learned to ignore imperfections... it's even easier when I already drank a few beers. The psychoacousics in mp3's coding do a good job.
Ahah! X3 At least there is someone on FA I can discuss with. Cos most people are looking at my reel to reel tape recorders and call the projectors x3... hehe, I don't have anything against them only.. they're silly... and sometimes you wish you found someone who understands what you're saying...
*hugs*

Heh - yeah, same here - mostly MP3s. Most music is sourced form low quality digital samples anyway (at least with all the electronica stuff), so I only grab FLACs if I know there's going to be a quality benefit to the file in that format. I do chuckle though at my oldest MP3s from 19 years ago being such low quality. There's a handful I've not replaced yet. XD
And yes, not often you can have detailed audio discussions! *hugs* ^_^

Heh - experience, but not necessary good experience. :P Back then, playing an MP3 on my Pentium 100 consumed 50% of the computer's power. They were a cool new technology and all, but if you were really working on stuff, you had to avoid using them if you needed that CPU power. Prior to that, I first played around with digital music making and sound work back in 1991, but back then, the 286-12MHz system I had couldn't even play a 16 bit WAVE file because it took too much power. Doing an pitch shift or band-change to a sound file could take up to 20 minutes to process. It's SO much better nowdays.

Trust me, at the time, that was a vast improvement over the previous systems. When I got my first computer in 1982, it had only 4K of usable RAM once it booted. Programs were loaded from a cassette tape drive, and it could only generate basic sound tones on a single channel.

I did, yes - I just don't think I envisioned it happening as fast as it did. The progression of advancements in computing has been nothing short of astonishing. If you were to take a modern ipad back to 2000 (which isn't exactly far away) it would have shocked and stunned them. They would have wondered from what century you came. Just to put things into context, in my previous job, the company needed to get a flat screen television capable of displaying 1080p, this was in 2001. The only TV on the market that could do it was a 32" Hitachi Plasma screen, and it cost $22,000. That's how far and how fast things have progressed.
