technically in traditional paintings from those era they would have the male figure in the left panel facing the right to signify the male being higher than his wife and things like that.

You are right! I totally didn't think about that. I did the Doberman first, and it's my sister's dog, and I used the best photo I had of him, which was facing left. Then I looked for one of my friend's Pom facing the opposite direction. I could have flipped them in photoshop for reference purposes since they are both somewhat symmetrical in color on the face. (Wanted to keep the likeness of the dogs so I can give them as gifts if they do not sell.) I will remember this though, if I do another set!
