It's nearing completion now, just Shadowsun and her drones to complete and I have 1250 points of Tau ready to rock the gaming board with. I never thought I'd paint so many drones.....
I've added a bonus Ethereal who I had in my bits box (yes he's metal) to be a swap out HQ option in place of Shadowsun or the Fireblade. Now I just need some tanks a flyer and a few more fire warrionrs and a crisis team and I hit my 2500 point goal for this army. and it'll all fit in a small case too!

nah, the metal models don't rust. Metal models are known to chip so it's always best to varnish them once you're finished painting them. the paint will come off simply by handling the model, dirt and grease on your hands pick up on the surface of the paint, it's that simple. spray varnish helps prevent that although it can change the over all finish of the model.
Washing them does help, as they have the residue of the release agent from the molds still on them. It's worse with some resin models as they weep with the chemicals they are made up from and occasionally absorbed the release agent into their make up. This makes most standard primers dry out and flake (trust me I learned this from painting my Warhound Titan) I found that in that particular case a good car undercoat/primer with silicone works best as they don't dry out and generally have more give in them without drying out.
Sadly though, metal models chipping is a fact of life, it drives up up the wall but we live with it as best we can.

honestly it's a had choice between the codex now, the new Tau codex is superb and offers so many new options and ways of playing the game, the Eldar book is quite scary too, with the new units and horrifling wargear. Honestly if I was asked to choose between them now, I'd be hard pressed to decide.
Hehe, we'll see. My choice really depends on the looks and stuff. I've always wanted Eldar anyway, because I think they're kinda cool looking. I went with Tau because I preferred mech-ish stuff and I loved their "Long cannons." That and my friend at the time already played Eldar, so I thought it would be fun to be something different. Hehehe, honestly... I don't really play the game much any more, I just love to paint the stuff =D I'm the player type that "Dies looking awesome," cause I suck at the game. I keep trying to get other more "game stat" oriented people to use my armies so they might at least win once in a while =)
Actually it will fit in the small GW case. Everything here except the Riptide and Broadside and their drones fit in a single layer. The plan is 2 Devilfish and a hammerhead with the Riptide on the bottom layer, 2 broadsides and fire warriors will take up the rest of the space, with a razorshark, as they are very flat
the Razorshark/Sunshark is actually pretty small compaired to the Devilfish/Hammerhead hull. I'd say it's less than half the height of it and maybe just a fraction wider with it's wing span but I recon it'll fit in a standard foam tray in a section 2 high by 4 across with no deep cuts into the foam, just the frame removal.
did you try to paint it white, blue and silver? if so and you didn't like it I suggest trying the following colour schemes:
Scheme 1 - Red Dawn:
Robes - red
Armour plates bronze/gold
trinkets, belts etc - blue
weapons metal - chainmail
Scheme 2 - monastic
Robes - bone
Armour plates - dark green
Trinkets, belts, etc - bronze/leather
weapons metal - chainmail
Scheme 3 - Royal Guard
robes - purple
Armour - silver
trinkets, belts, etc - dark red
Weapons metal - silver with a blue/purple sheen
Scheme 4 - Fire Watch
Robes - orange/yellow
armour plates - dark metal/black
trinkets, dark red
weapons metal - dark metal with sharp silver edges.
if you want help drop me a note and I'll go into things in more detail.

it was great fun to work on. the paint scheme was great fun to work on and using a grey primer really helped. I need to finish the other 1250 points though.
