
The reason I'm putting this up pencil wise, is because I'm going to attempt to digitally ink and color this one. I really like where this one's going. It's fun.

The third one's going to be a pain.
When her tail is flattened, it is that big. She typically keeps it curled up at the end, but she lets it go when the wind is blowing. Takes up too much strength to keep it curled in the wind.
Also, she's part cat, so I tried to keep it very similar to a cat's tail, which is close to 3/4 the cat's length. Take a skunk's tail and lengthen it, and there ya go.

I think that "quandrants of mechanical parts" approach will be the best thing. For a good reference, buy the book How To Draw Manga: Giant Robots By Hikaru Hiyashi. It has a great section on designing stuff like that, that could really help you out in terms of mechanical designs. It's also full of handy tips that the average Joe (or Josephine, as the case may be) draw the best darn robots this side of the Pacific! It's $20 at Borders™©® the last time I checked.
