
Unpolished carving of a polar bear. I put it back in the soapstone block I cut it from to get an interesting effect. It's strange to take an artistic photograph of something that I carved.

Thanks for the watch and the fav. :) If you are curious, you might try something simple. Carving from soapstone is fairly easy, and only requires some basic tools. Most art supply stores carry some pieces of stone, and for the carving aspect, basic files, rasps, and a hacksaw work very well. I have a medium sized rat-tail file, a hand hacksaw, and a rasp like the left one: http://www.woodcraft.com/images/family/web278.jpg The stone is very soft and can break/chip easily if dropped, so just use caution in your work.
