Lately I have been playing a game series I've sorely overlooked for quite some time; Metal Gear Solid. I recently played, and beat Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, twice. In it was an in-game advertisement for Calorie Mate, an energy supplement bar, with various nutrients and vitamins packed into one quick and easy bar for when you're on the go. You may also recognize it from a "24" themed Japanese Commercial, starring Kiefer Sutherland, advertising Calorie Mate, which is funny, since Kiefer Sutherland is playing as Big Boss in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid game.
As you can imagine, I was curious, and because it was only in Japan, that curiosity was doubled. So, on my second playthrough, I said 'what the heck' and spontaneously ordered one. Then after an excruciatingly long 17 days to today, it finally arrived, and in excellent shape. Calorie Mate comes in a variety of flavors, and as you'd expect from Japan, it comes in some flavors that would blow your mind; Chocolate, Fruit, Cheese, Vegetable and Potato. As an American, I'd recommend starting with the more familiar chocolate flavor if you're trying it for the first time, plus, it was the flavor advertised in the game.
I waited until my father got home to split one of the bars. It comes in a pack of four, at least this square package, four mini-bars, a smidgen bigger than your average fun-size twix bar, divided into two plastic packages in the box.
We tried it, and I have to say, on a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it a 7.5. The flavor definitely is a chocolate-y flavor and it stands out, but it's nothing too special. I doubt it's from the shipping, but it's very dry, however, it dissolves pretty quickly, so you won't really need to wash it down. It's good, but not something I'd eat in quantities like Big Boss would. In the long run, I like it, so I definitely may order some more. :3
