I've never heard of Cave Story

If you like retro games with modern style, you'll LOVE cave story. Its got a great story and awesome characters.

So I assume it was a fun game?

Cave Story is only one of the coolest platformers ever made. You need to beat it a minimum of two times to see everything. Good call on King!

I have a Gamer Furs Steam community and every week or so we have an event were we set up a game that everyone should play, and expand their gaming genre awareness. This weeks game just happens to be Cave Story. =3 Feel free to come join us, Mr. Glenn, I'm sure you'd fit in with the crowd. ^.^ It can be quiet at times, but it also picks up when something interesting gets sparked in conversation.

Oh yes i eventually made it to hell after my 3rd run thru and no i didnt beat it in any k inda record time, i had to grind that stage and rebuild up my weapons to finally beat that giant happy face jerk! XD

And that steam community sounds pretty fun tho i only hvae the basics on Steam, Orange box :3

I still wonder why king is the only one in the game with red eyes that isn't a bad guy.

After playin thru the game several times i've come to the conclusion that King might have eaten one of those red flowers and become a monstrous mimiga and eventually turned back to normal but his eyes stay the same after the transformation. Its also my theory that it was that same event that Arther died in. Cos they say that Arther died fighting back some "mysterious inner evil" but they never say what it was.

Makes alot of sense now. I also notice king's look after he dies doesn't have the red eye thing going on.

But don't Mimigas die after they consume the red flowers? I thought they couldn't return to normal...

Poor king...he really has it rough. Almost makes you want to hug him, but...He'd probably Renzokuken you with that sword if you did...(Attack from Final Fantasy 8...pretty awesome move)

They never really elaborate on what happens to mutated mimigas cos usually someone kills em XD

Yeah, I just figured that since when you kill them, they turn back into normal Mimigas(At least Igor and Toroko did) then they would eventually die anyway, and turn back to normal...

Who knows though, they never said what would happen if one wasn't killed. Someone should have locked one up in a chamber and tested it(An already-mutated one of course)

Still, it bothers me how they say the red flowers "destroy the faculty of reason". It never mentions if the mind could recover or not...So if King did mutate once and return to normal over time, that means he must have been strong enough to actually keep his mind, or at least part of it, sane...
Either that, or he did completely lose it, and by some miracle his mind rebuilt itself from scratch or something...

Or maybe he was just born with red eyes, and never really mutated at all! Who knows :D

actually, Im not entirely sure... but the sprite for Igor in his mutated form is the same as the one right before you enter the throne room. This might just be sprite recycling, but if its the same dude, then mimigas can turn back to normal.

When I opened up the events using Sue's Workshop, I saw that there was an unused event where Igor wakes up sane and asks you where he is. But he removed it at the end... ah well.

How on Earth did I not see this until now!?!? King's my favorite!

Yeah i was really saddened by his death. Theres so much back story behind King and the previous leader of the mimiga Village, i hope with the success of teh WiiWare game, Pixel might make a prequel type game about those two. but its just a pipe dream.

I would love the prequel as well.

Someone made a VERY good Cave Story sequel I suggest you try, called Jenka's Nightmare. It's a LOT harder than the original, and it has a very good atmosphere and matches the original very well. Even the personalities of the characters are very accurate! The only thing that bothers me are the Genus stages, which seem very off and inhumanly hard. However, King comes back for a short time, albeit only as a ghost in Genus:Spirit. Afterwards, you get Blade from his grave a la Arthur.

Here's a hint- in Genus:Sky (when you lose your weapons and land in a weird place with mimiga statues) along the path, you'll find a black doorway first. Don't go in and keep going instead. the second door is Genus:Spirit, where you can glimpse King and get his sword. I only noticed this the second time around.

cave story is a really amazing game, and this rendition of king puts a new taste to the character. if you ever get in the mood to make him like he was in the game when you leveled the sword to its max, then i think youd be able to do it justice, id love to see it, but its not my place to burden you with such. awesome art bro.
