While most of his career was spent in Chrysler products, Richard Petty spent 1969 in Ford's new Torino Talladega. While Dodge unleashed their Charger Daytona onto the NASCAR circuit with its advanced aerodynamics, Chrsyler Corp. still wanted Petty in the less competitive Plymouth Roadrunner. When the King was denied a more aerodynamic ride, he pulled up stakes and joined the Ford camp.
Petty managed to win in his first outing in the Torino Talladega, at Riverside in January. He went on to win nine other events in the season, and finished second in points behind David Pearson in his final full season he would drive. Come 1970, Plymouth wooed Petty back with their own winged wonder, the Superbird.
This is Polar Lights' recent rerelease of Petty's Torino Talladega kit, and not much has changed. Both the 428 CJ and the Boss 429 engines are available in the kit, but the chassis and headers still require a bit of work to fit the 429 into it. A good kit, but an oversight I think should have been fixed.
