The title? Inspired by the song 'It's Time' by Imagine Dragons. Something vibrant, draconic; and not done in coloured pencils for a change. I really enjoyed painting this today, It's good to do something so arty and just for fun, I need to get out my paints more I think. And all done whilst watching season 4 of Xena: Warrior Princess, lol.
Started as a sketch I'd done with the others that I've drawn lately and now I finally got the motivation to make something more of it. I refined the sketch (decided that the steps looked crap as rectangle slabs and drew them as irregular stepping-stones) and then traced it though onto 300gsm weight watercolour paper using my lightbox. I inked the line-art with waterproof fine-liners.
I spent all day today putting colour to it. First I masked out the dragons and stones with masking fluid (cool liquid latex) and then put on a vibrant watercolour wash for the background. The masking fluid was then peeled off (so much fun). The smaller dragons and stepping-stones were coloured using water-soluble coloured pencils (with and without water to blend). The main/big dragon was painted using acrylic paints (in jars). Then for the odd acid/rain-drop splotches I just put some colour in using metallic gel pens.
