Pushing - Sofawolf Heat #10
Sofawolf's Heat #10 is coming out this summer at Anthrocon!
This is one of the five illustrations that I did for the story "Pushing", written by TrianglePascal. It was painted with acrylics on illustration board.
The book is full of stories and art, and can be purchased from Sofawolf's dealer's table island at Anthrocon 2013! For more info about the book, visit:https://www.sofawolf.com/products/heat-10

Its actually a little easier to do greyscale than colors. Because in both, you have to worry about value (lights/darks), but in greyscale I don't have to worry about the hues themselves, or the saturation (vivid or dullness of the colors).
Actually, something that I often do in my more complex paintings is a greyscale underpainting - to get the values blocked in before painting the colors on top of them. It tends to help me keep my lighting more unified, and then I don't have to brain as many factors at once while painting =).

reminds me when I was finishing Army RECONDO school, were were doing our boat operations when northeaster hit. in Zodiack in 4 to 5 feet swells, doing the hawi-50 stoke for dear life to get back in land. in pouring rain and howling wind, lol still never know how we made it..
I actually just got my contributor's copy of Heat 10, and I've kind of been paging through the story for the past hour looking at the art you drew for it. Thank you so, so much for doing such an amazing job. I really appreciate it, particularly how well you managed to bring out the characters.
