Kelsea was a, how should I put this, 'unique' specimen I had the pleasure of stumbling across. And I mean this literally as our encounter was purely by coincidence. See Lana had wanted my extensive knowledge of mechanics for some underwater research, and Sally...wanted to go on a vacation. Personally I'd rather skydive with a backpack of silverware than plunge into open water.
Sadly, the opinion of two cute women always beats the wanting of one scrawny male.
Lana was not disappointed. We found out the site she had hoped to be some lost ship remains was actually a long lost city once belonging to a race of extinct aquatics closely related to sharks. They were a fascinating culture to learn about, valuing strength and sociability very highly. Almost the exact opposite of my luminari college, who is amusingly reclusive and constantly hunting knowledge.
We also found out they weren't extinct. Yeah, imagine my surprise when that giant shadow looming out of the murky water was more interested in snuggling me to her...soft chest than making me a meal. Sally was not quiet as warming to her appearance, but neither of us wanted to argue with those teeth.
Thanks to Lana's exceptional talent for linguistics we managed to get some introductions out of the way. Her name was Kelsea, strongest hunter in her tribe of what I estimated to be three hundred equally large shark-like anthros. Apparently I was the first 'surface fuzzy' they had encountered in several generations. Some sort of catastrophe had led them to believe civilization on the surface had collapsed and thus they kept to themselves, often migrating and interacting with other large 'tribes' of their kind in a routine network deep beneath the sea.
I'm sure Lana might end up with a Noble prize for this. She's already pulling every resource she can to find these other tribes and help them reestablish contact with the surface societies. Their knowledge of marine food sources and catching skills would prove quiet a profit maker if they ever felt so inclined.
Kelsea, however, was already enthusiastic. A bit too uncomfortably for my liking, as she was never more, or less, than a few feet away from me at any giving time during our visit. Even when Sally and I tried to explain we're an engaged couple, she took this as a sort of challenge. Yes, Kelsea believes it was fate that she was the one to discover me and thus we're destined to be together for life. To this day I loathingly regret teaching her the meaning of the word 'boyfriend' as that is all she ever calls me. The tribe was no help. Well, to me anyway! They were proud that Kelsea had finally found someone she deemed worthy of her love and power. Very interesting that they are attracted to a significant other based on their ability to protect them.
Us leaving did nothing to deter her either. She followed Lana's boat all the way back to port. Hell she swam faster than it. On the drive home Sally was a smooch upset to find the shark jogging almost casual beside us...on the highway. And as for my vault's blast door, I need a new door and will leave it at that.
I have no clue how she got past Mephis' intruder wards for the mansion upstairs. But I could say that about almost every visitor I get.
Kelsea pretty much lives in my lab now. Kind of makes me feel bad since we're no where near any oceanic waters. I did let her renovate some of my aquatic specimen labs into her living quarters though. That seems to be more than pleasing enough for her. I can't really get rid of her, no matter how much Sally demands it. Maybe Jason could hulk-out and wrestle her, but I doubt she can match skills with someone who's taken down giant squids bare handed. Besides she loves the way Kelsea grills salmon. Lana is all to happy to have someone aquatic and related to the 'greatest find of her career' on hand to talk to. Zandra and Sorsha have taking a sisterly liking to her and now I rarely see one without the company of one or both of the other.
This makes the total number of girls living under one roof as they try hairbrained schemes to win a relationship with me to five. And yet, all I can think about is that I miss the days when my laboratory used to be about the science.
