Its more of a social awkwardness type of thing that only goes away after a certain period of time with another has passed.
I literally wanted to bite my tongue and drown in my own blood to not meet my roommate who I've only messaged online.
So really the only way through it is to squeak out the greetings in the best way you can.

I figure that awkwardness has to do with it. Like, quite a lot. I also have social anxieties, which definitely doesn't help. :c

Yeah, it's a bit of a vicious cycle really, it kind of stinks. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the fear of losing people afterwards, or having them not like the "real" you (general you here). :P
