Gem had spent a long time being very careful trying to pull the snail out of its shell, she was sure it would be able to go much faster if it didnt have that bulky thing on its back but when she was finally finished it didn't seem to move at all. She didn't understand, she'd only been trying to help and now it was sleeping. Suddenly she felt really sad.

I remember doing this as a kid, not understanding the way things are supposed to be, pulling wings off things, legs off things, not understanding that they were living things. Soo many things I regret doing back then in my naivety.
I remember being about 3 and finding a bird with a broken wing, my parents kept in in a birdcage in the shed and the next day I went to go see it but the cage was empty. Mum and dad told me the bird had gotten better and flown away. It was only years later did i realise the truth.

I remember before I moved away from the country my Cat was accidently hit by a car...
My folks took her to the vet and had her put down because it was cheaper for them...
The told me flat out what they did and I wanted another cat, my dad said no and refused any attempt to get another one, I hated my dad for it and I hated my mom as well because it was that one part of my life I felt the loneliest.
I still felt really lonely growing up, I missed the companionship of a pet, and after years of being told I cannot have a pet I moved out and the first thing I did was Buy a cage and got my Pet Rats.
when I was younger I liked animals, I never harmed them or anything, I could walk up to a wild skunk and pet it rub it's belly and play with it and it would play with me. I even had a Pet Bat that used to fly into my room and sleep in my closet. My folks chased him away.
my great grandmother had a Pet seagull, Porcupine and Skunk at her place before we moved her into a siniors home, and they all moved up to see her.
I think it's a family gift ^^'

Baby I know you were just trying to help him but he liked having that on his back, it was his house you wouldn't like it very much if people came along with a big stick and slowly poked at you until you left your house?
No baby I'm sorry, I can't wake him up; he's always going to be asleep, some people think when you go to sleep like this a little bit of you leaves this world for a better place, other people think you move on becoming a new animal or flower.
But for now baby don't worry, I know you didn't mean to be bad, you didn't know any better; if you had asked before hand I probably could have helped more.
Yes baby, yo do need to sit in the naughty corner, you know you've been bad enough already and I can see how upset you are, so after you've had your time out why don't you come out here and we'll see what if anything we can do for this little guy.

we raised chickens, and when I was toddler I would always get irritated by the roosters because I felt like they were giving me the stink eye. So sometimes I would go into the pen and chase after them so they would stop acting so superior, but no matter how intimidating I was they would still crow and act all full of themselves. :P
I don't recall ever hurting them, just chasing them about and a lot of yelling. But it was still pretty stoopid. xD

Even though I don't really like snails or slugs this pic really saddens me : ( I used to always kill spiders on sight because they creeped me out so much but coming across he cuteness that is jumping spiders has kind of changed my view of them since my youth. I still find other species of spider unsettling at times but I usually now take them outside.
I played that game once. Wasn't much fun.

Seriously though, I remember one time when I was about, uh, six or seven? It's been a while, anyway. I found a tiny little frog while on summer vacation, and handed it to my brother so I could go down a slide. He put the frog on the slide while I was going down it, and... yeah, I made frog pancakes that day.
Also, I put a frog in the freezer one day, thinking that it could survive indefinitely in cryonic statis and be revived just by thawing it. Luckily, my mother discovered it and freed it before any permanent damage could be done.

Actually, wood frogs (Rana sylvatica) can do that second thing. It's how they hibernate.

I think it's important for cubs not to know that those things are really living things at that age... because stuff like the does happen, but I worry about a cub that realized it had just murdered another living thing. That could seriously scar a cub. So .. although we regret it later.. (as we should) ... it's better than realizing in the moment..
