There is another advantage, too: it is not being compromised for corporate motives. Mac OS-X 10.4.9, 10.4.10, and 10.4.11 have all been modified to work better with iPods and iPhones, which hurt their ability to do large file work with Photoshop CS, and even (with .9 and .10) caused loss of TXT files while writing. Worse yet, 10.4.11 has DRM (digital rights management) software built in that prevented MP3s that worked before from playing. I had to reload 10.4.2, wipe out the 10.4.11, and reupgrade to 10.4.8 and stop there. That won't happen with LINUX. There is no way in hell that I will "upgrade" to Apple's Leopard.
Heh, nice. Xubuntu, huh? That's based on Ubuntu but uses the XFCE desktop environment instead of GNOME, right? Nice. I've heard about lots of things you can do to make Linux distros under most major desktop environments look Mac-like. (I use OpenSuse myself, with KDE)
Macs are often described as having "the hearts of a Unix box in them" (hence why some common Linux/Unix/FreeBSD programs like Wine also can be made to work on Macs) ;)
