List Time! Favorite 100 Pokemon: Part 2
LIST TIME!
And finally, here we are back with the 100 Favorite Pokemon List. It's been a while, huh? I know. But now it's not the time to worry about all that time spent in nonsense; there are still 90 of my Pokemon left to be added.
On this part, I pay my respect to a few of the veterans from the Game Boy era. Sure, I've said that I much prefer the newer games to the older ones, but that doesn't mean that I didn't find of of these cool. No; these guys are all some pretty cool Pokes. Now without further delays, let's continue...
My Favorite 100 Pokémon
#90. Mew
Next up, we have the ancestor of all Pokemon, Mew! Also known for starting the trend of adorable, balanced, psychic* legendaries, who are to be captured post-game.
Mew is quite and interesting little guy, as he is the only Pokemon who can learn EVERY move. Okay, okay, ALMOST every move, except for "Sketch" and "Chatter"... other than that, Mew can learn every move EVER! Even "Transform"! It sure would make for an interesting match.
Here's a fun fact some of you may not know... Mew wasn't originally supposed to be part of the game. Mew was basically an afterthought and was added onto Blue/Red two weeks before the game was released. It sounds like a good reason as to where the infamous "Mew glitch" came from.
Oh, well. Regardless of that, this anomaly of Pokemon is loved and held very close to Pokefans everywhere... and who can blame them?
*Except for Shaymin
#89. Houndoom
Hell yeah!Lame pun intended!
Who else but the Hellhound of the Pokemon world itself, but Houndoom! Yes, I know, for all you folklore nuts out there, these infamous canines from Hell have even surfaced in GAME FREAK's monster fest, these guys make no bones about their inevitable battle prowess. And sure enough these canines of Dark and Fire aren't shy about what they can do.
On a more informative note, I should point out that Houndoom, along with its pre-evolution, are the only Dark/Fire Pokemon. I actually find it pretty odd that we don't have another one of those types, as of right now, but hey, it just adds on another reason as to why these pooches are so special.
Also, just about any Fire Pokemon that is actually GOOD is a winner in my books. Not to mention... Houndoom would be PERFECT for a Pokemon death metal band. Don't you agree?
#88. Sableye
Ahh. Here we have the famous little rascal straight out of the Ruby/Sapphire generation; the cave-dweller, Sableye.
I don't know about you, but I've always loved this jittery little dude. I have say, it is DEFINITELY because of his design that I fell in love with this little guy; he's pretty lovable in his own... special way. The fact that he's the Gollum of the Pokemon world really says something.
Stats-wise... he's not so good. With a pitiful base stat of only 380 he ranks VERY low on the the reliable Pokemon totem pole. Specifically, he has the lowest base stat total of all evolved Dark-type Pokemon. Dark/Ghost be damned! He may not have a weakness... but he doesn't have a lot of strengths either.
So, it is a bit of a conflicting matter on whether I want to see Sableye evolve or not. I would love to see him become a stronger Pokemon, but I don't know is I want him to change.
Who knows?
But for me, whether he's strong or not, this mischievous jewel-eater will always have a special place in my heart for one of the most loveable Pokemon out there... just keep him away from your pearls.
#87. Leavanny
I don't think anybody is more surprised than me to see Leavanny on a favorite Pokemon list... but... I've grown to love Leavanny a LOT.
I don't even know how; Leavanny's pre-evolution, Sewaddle is a bug Pokemon that shows up early in the game; it's evolution Swadloon needs high friendship to evolve into Leavanny, and the entire family are Grass/Bug type Pokemon. They have 3 strikes right off the gate as to why players should stay away from them... and yet... they ended up REALLY defying my expectations.
Now these are the type of Pokemon that I love especially; the ones who can surprise me on how useful, reliable and wonderfully destructive they can actually be. And Leavanny is one of them. There's a reason why Black/White has SO many of my favorite Pokemon, because of those like Leavanny who defy all odds.
Anyway- I got a little sidetracked, I know- Leavanny, being based on a leaf insect and a... nanny (Odd combination.), is known for her sewing skills and maternal nature, taking care of their young Swadloon and Sewaddle, not to mention any poor defensless Pokemon in need and will sew clothes for them made out of leaves.
Awww! Isn't that lovely?
See, not all Pokemon have to be pure rage and destruction, although it CAN be a plus, sometimes, a tender Pokemon with a tender nature and kick-ass battle skills are all you need to make your team an outstanding one... JUST keep them away from fire... they burn easily.
#86. Tyranitar
Raaaarrr!!
- Tyranitar
That's all you need to hear to get the hell out of the way; if note even mountains and rivers are safe from its rampage, what makes you think your puny little Rattata stands a chance?
Tyranitar, one of the famous pseudo-legendary Pokemon, evolves- very late, I might say- from the rather modest Pupitar, who evolves from the "meh" Larvitar. Getting a Tyranitar was easily the biggest shock from my run in Silver- I mean, come on! Who expected to get a beast like this from a super-dense shell?!
And rightfully so, its stats are fit for its nature; being in a three-way tie for having the highest base stat of all Dark-type Pokemon (tied with Hydregion and Darkrai) at a whopping 600, not to mention having the highest attack of all Dark-type Pokemon- which can reach to be as high as 403- you bet your ass I'm going to use it to destroy innocent trainers everywhere!
The only downside to such a powerful beast, not to mention its Achilles's heel, is that it suffers a MASSIVE weakness to Fighting-type Pokemon. Okay, to be fair no Pokemon is TRULY unstoppable, they go down one way or another, and if you want to Brick Break a Tyranitar to unconsciousness, well... it'll get the job done...
... that is IF it doesn't get YOU first!
#85. Suicune
Before you ask, yes, I do love dogs. So it's no surprise one of the legendary dogs(?) would end up on this list, somewhere.
Suicune, being one the three legendary beasts created by Ho-Oh, it is said to represent the rain that drenched the flames of the Brass Tower... well, being a Water-type legendary, I can't say I'm shocked. Still, I will say, it is definitely one of my favorite mono-Water type Pokemon out there. Having a base stat of and impressive 580, it is no surprise of how tough this Pokemon is. Oddly enough, though, of the three beasts the most balanced of the three. When I say "balanced" I don't mean that all of its stats are the same all across the board, but the way they are arranged for Suicune, they definitely work in its favor.
Both of its defenses can reach as high as 361; which is definitely great, considering that this is one of the rare defensive Pokemon that are effectively offensive as well; its attack isn't much special, but its special attack can reach a fairly good 306; combine the fact that it can learn Calm Mind, and you got a special tank in your hands!
And yes, I know Suicune, and the other beasts are infamous for being both annoying to find, and annoying to capture... I do have to say though- and some of you might not believe it when I say this- I managed to capture Suicune on my very first try... and I didn't even have to look far! I don't remember the exact details, I just remember that I just so happened to have a Crobat who knew Mean Look... and well, the rest was history. I can definitely thank Suciune for being a worthy challenge, and not being as STUBBORN as the other beasts to catch.
#84. Spiritomb
... the Forbbiden Pokemon...
It's Spiritomb time, everybody! This dangerous Pokemon was locked away in an Odd Keystone, 500 years ago for its malevolent deeds... and now, it's come back to screw up your day!
Being composed of 108 malevolent spirits, this entity of Ghost/Dark matter, Spiritomb forever swirls as a small vortex... at least until you do something stupid and set those spirits free.
Spiritomb is basically an improved version of Sableye; improved as in it has a much more favorable base stat total of 485; both of its defenses' bases measure in at 108, and can go as high as 346. Both of its attacks can go as high as 311, so... yeah... Spiritomb WILL ruin your day.
The only downside to Spiritomb, is that its HP is pretty low; so even with no weaknesses, don't be surprised if Spiritomb takes some damamge.
For those of you that don't know about the whole "108" let me explain that it is not just any random number; in Buddhism, 108 is the number of temptations a person must overcome before reaching Nirvana. What are these temptations, you may ask?
... I don't have a clue; I just hope pizza isn't one of them.
#83. Skarmory
Talk about a badass bird of prey! Up next, we have the flying tank, Skarmory.
Being a bird made of metal you'd think that this thing would boast some incredible defense...
... and you'd be correct! Skarmory has the distinction of having the highest Defense of all Flying-type Pokemon, which can reach an insane 416; Skarmory WILL take a Rock Slide and shake it off like it's nothing!
Another thing that makes Skarmory special is that its typing, Steel/Flying, is completely unique to it; all for a Pokemon that has absolutely no evolutionary line whatsoever, this is one hell of a deal!
You'd have to be insane to pass up on a Pokemon like this one! All you have to do... is catch it. And believe me... it's not as easy as you might think; he WILL put up a good fight for it.
#82. Blastoise
Oh, yeah! NOW this list is getting started! Up next, we have the wonderful mascot of Blue, Blastoise! With that, I've answered both questions of which Gen I. game I picked up AND who was my starter.
Becuase, no way in hell it would be Charizard, I'll tell you that much.
It may be a bit of my bias to turtles... but, come on. Who doesn't love turtles?I swear, if ANYBODY makes a reference to The Master of Disguise, I will kill you!
More specifically, who doesn't love a turtle with water cannons spouting from its shell? It's cooler than it sounds, trust me! As far as I'm concerned, I don't know ANYBODY who hates Blastoise... and all I can say is, good. Blastoise is one of the biggest reasons why I love Water Pokemon so much.
Blastoise isn't without his own merits, oh no. For five generations, Blastoise has had the highest special defense of all starter Pokemon, which reach a maximum of 339. Not too shabby, if I do say so, myself. Blastoise is pretty well balanced in its stats; with its biggest downside being its speed, but I don't consider it much of a loss.
#81. Keldeo
And now, to close off Part 2, we have the Colt Pokemon, the D'Artagnan of the legendary muskedeers- Keldeo!I ALSO will not tolerate any MLP jokes!
Talk about leaving a great first impression; me, being a fan of The Three Musketeers from the book, I was VERY pleased that Game Freak decided to make Pokemon versions on them. If there's one thing I find odd is that they're genderless. I know it's a weird thing to complain about, but... all the musketeers were male, so I don't really get why the Muskedeers aren't. I don't know, but whatever, that's not the point.
Keldeo is my favorite of the four; even though it doesn't have as varied a moveset as, say, Terrakion, Keldeo makes GREAT use of the moves that it CAN learn; including Surf, Focus Blast, Secret Sword, Icy Wind and, say it with me, Calm Mind! Calm Mind gets a HUGE bonus from my behalf, since it works so well with Keldeo's incredibly high special attack; which can reach a maximum of 392! The highest special attack of any Fighting type!
En garde indeed!
