and, theyre done :3
these are that super duper top secret project i had been working on.
they've got the option of being steadily on, or they can fade a bit, thanks to the controller boards i made (https://www.furaffinity.net/view/10590595/).
The wolf and bear plaques were traced out on the CNC mill i had been working with all semester, then they were masked and sandblasted so that the wolf and bear were frosted silhouettes.
then i got this roasted bird's eye maple wood (
geroff and
sulli's choice) and i cut out the pockets (on the underside) using the CNC mill too. drilled holes in the back for power inputs and the selection switch. i set it up so that one could power the other, that way they'd only need one power adapter. i soldered up the LED boards, and then put all the rest together and now theres what you see here :3
parts used (for those interested):
-3/16" plexiglass
-28 blue high brightness LEDs
-4 1/8" phono jacks
-4 10uF capacitors
-2 LM7805 voltage regulators
-2 Picaxe 08m's
-perfboard
-2 CNC cut copper clad boards
-a little less than 2' of roasted birds eye maple wood
-2 SPDT switches
-1 5.9v DC adapter
-wire
-solder
-glue
-and a lil love :3

one of the drafting plotter makers used to sell a desktop mill for around $1300 which i didn't have at the time or i would have gotten it.
i've also seen people put steppers on something they could get from harbour freight.
i remember seeing one of the 3d printer makers selling a desk top mill for under $2k too.
