It's REALLY easy; you brush on the adhesive that comes with the kit with a small precise brush, wait for it to 'dry' (until clear and tacky), then tear/cut/whatever bits of leaf and put it on top! The stuff simply won't stick unless it's a tacky area, so you can easily brush away the excess. Can be quite meticulous and time consuming though depending on how neat and flat you want it (I usually do it a little more distressed/piecemeal for the look).
