Well now, a couple days ago I had Rosemary posing with an Uzi and couple weeks before that with an AKS-74U. So I thought it was about time to show her with Eugene Stoner's lovechild the AR15/M16! In this case it is actually an early model of the M4 carbine which is in heavy use with US. Forces. While doing some research for this pieces I discovered that various versions of the AR15 family have also been used by British SAS forces. The piece is from my Long Torso era and if I was to do it again I'd handle several things differently in the presentation. Image size 14"x 11". Medium color pencil, gouache with some marker and micron pen.

Having exclusivley used one while training with the U.S. Army I came to know it fairly well.
And when I got back to civilian life, I went right back to my AK.
The M16 design has many things in it's favor, but personally (and perhaps this relies on personal preferance) I much prefer the simplicity, functionality, durability and downright rugedness of the AK.
It can preform dependably in conditions which would cripple the maintinence-needy M16 family.
One thing that the M16 does have in it's favor though, it looks pretty. Especially when held by Rosemary.

Be patient grasshopper. I have plans of doing a piece with her and a 1921 Thompson complete with the 50rd Drum, the M1A1 had receiver that would not accept drum magazines, the Cutts Compensator, front vertical grip, and the Lyman adjustable rear sight. She'll be wearing a 1920's Flapper dress and I plan to call the piece "Chopper and Flapper".
