Two weeks ago I had something similar out an allergic reaction for those two weeks.
My eyes started to itch and (out of reflex of course) I rubbed them. This started a cycle of itching and rubbing with the result being similar to that image, even though not as bad as yours.

I was on vacation in Hawaii this winter and I got an adeno virus. I got perscribed antibiotic drops both while there and when I was laid-over in LA for a night. They were ineffective ultimately, and all while everyone was like "oh yeah I had that and it cleared up in a few days" nope, too me a month all through february to recover :/ . The worst part is if it gets bad enough, you become light sensitive too, which means no TV, no computer, heck no reading even...just you, in a dark room, doing nada...
