It did, I think it was actually HELPED by the blank space at the bottom of the page. It gives the audience something to anticipate because they know that if you HAVE that space there then something else will happen beyond the writing of the message. It keeps it from feeling like typing for the sake of typing because you know it's going somewhere (and then you can appreciate what is being revealed about the character). So it's all well played.
