Smithy is from a species called "Racklin". And the Racklin are from a story i started writing out in high school. Basically, a ship lands on earth around 2014ish. A huge mothership carrying a whole lot of these alien guys. Who are pretty much the lizard evolution of what humans could be if they well. Evolved from lizards. They came to scout earth and ended up staying.

And 400 years later is where SMITHY is from. At this point Racklin and Earth culture have blended a bit. So Smithy was born in florida, has human and racklin friends, etc.

Long story short Racklin are lizard based folk with 4 pairs of horns that shed horribly every year or so and come from an alien planet that may or may not still exist. They wouldnt know because theyve been on earth for 400 years.
