So I though about doing this for a while, since playing guitar takes most of my creative time lately. However the fact that my amp barely has enough setup to get the sound I want out of it, that it needs repair because low-pitched notes makes crashing, overridden noise, and that my guitar frets are in desperate needs of levelling, it just sounded horrible whenever I recorded. But now thanks to technology I'm using virtual amp kits with a special iRig connector to my iPod, and boy that 40 bucks connector was well worth it!
You can also use a pc connector with a program with virtual amps, but it doesn't have the portability of a mobile. So now with the multiple applications there are on iOS it sounds just sooo muuuch beterrr! I pick the amp I want, the stomp boxes I want and I can save it all on one quick slot. It's just so much easier to change guitar tunes now! So you can imagine I've been fiddling with it quite a bit.
Right now I'm using Jamup, and what's more awesome is that there's an online feature to share setups, so the other day I stumbled on the heavier-gain guitar sounds that I just cannot ever hope to achieve with my shitty amp, and it crossed my head that whenever I want to play a metal song I can get the sound just right with this. So I put it to the test, the setup reminded me of Metallica, I had master of puppets in mind so I learned it a few days ago and decided to test out the recording.
Turns out the app does record well, only issue is when I transferred it back to the pc it played faster somehow, and I couldn't correct it. Not just the tempo, it was pitched too and sounded shitty. So until I figure this app out I'm recording with my rock band mic hooked to my laptop to audacity, and my guitar plays on the TV. You can manage your recordings so much faster that way anyway.
Sooo, heavy-load of comments aside, it took me about 30 minutes to do. Re-recording over what you recorded turned out to be harder than I thought, unlike doing it over a song that you know the tempo is right haha. And then there's a small out of sync problem that you have to fix, with my mic 6 foot long cable vs my short iPod earphones.
By the way, if you have good ears, there is a false note in the double guitar part, because I'm supposed to play one note on the 22nd tab and my guitar ends at 21. So I just said fuck it, lets play another note instead.
