That climbing frame looks like it was an absolute arseache to draw

Dude, it totally was. I started and I was like "Pffft THIS WILL BE EASY. IT'S JUST A FRAME." but I was just SO WRONG. I must have sketched that frame 7 or 8 times before I was really happy with it.

I actually don't mind them, but I sketch them really simply to start. Most of the actual work is done in the inking stages when it comes to chains. When I sketch them, I draw just plain lines to get a sense of how they will fall, and where to put them. Then I make a new layer, and sketch little overlapping boxes along the lines I drew earlier, and trash the original lines so that the boxes are all that are left. When I get to inking, I make sure they link up properly. It's a process that has always worked really well for me!

I'll have to use that technique to try drawing them more~

I like the square chains, and they seem like they might be easier to flesh out and have them look right than the circular links, so maybe I can practice with those and move on to the harder ones!

You can always round them off after you've sketched them square to get the placement right. I've done that before where someone specifically needed rounder links, and it works. c:
