An old grandfather is teaching his grandson about life. "A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy.
"It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, pride, superiority, and ego. It is helpless anger, for his anger will change nothing."
"Hate wears you down, and does not hurt your enemy. It is like taking poison and wishing your enemy would die. I have struggled with these feelings many times."
"He continued, "The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.
"The same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other person, too."
The boy looked intently into his Grandfather's eyes and asked, "Which one will win, Grandfather?"
The Grandfather smiled and quietly said, "The one we feed."

the fable is fun. I think the hard part about the wolves within most people is... its very hard to tell which one is good wolf and which one is the bad. Defining the boundaries between anger and passion, between guilt and humility, or between truth and lie is much harder to do than the words are to imagine.
