I am blown away at how you not just found an interesting and dynamic composure, but you totally NAILED IT on perspective, that pose and anatomy, and just the conveyed mood of the scene. Personally I'm taking away from this that the gaping mouth and outstretched limbs are reaching---spread as far as one can as if the claw their way across the air in such desperation to find freedom. It's exciting because you see this isn't an attempt to go back into somewhere, so you almost relate to the character and feel a sense of urgency for it, encouragement ("Go little guy!! Go! You're almost there!!"). The entire mood is set with that mid-range neutral grey and it seems gloomy, the lack of any distinct background building details doesn't give us knowledge of what they're escaping from, just that this is clearly either a last resort or perhaps the escape they were waiting on, maybe even tried before? That wide open jaw I feel is screaming, letting out that last deep breath of air that propelled it over the obstacle and it is also giving me a certain tinge of...pain? I'm not getting 'victory' from this in the sense of this freedom is long-lived.... Please, please excuse me for not making an instant connection here (I feel stupid and insulting if I don't *get* something someone has drawn or way they drew it)- the light shooting through the shoulder/back to chest, this symbolizes a bullet, correct? Or other lethal force? Just that facial expression is tense, screaming, and shock, such as the pain: encapsulating the emotion and intense edge-of-your-seat action, but tragedy strikes in the final moment, shattering the chances of survival, their life having it potentially cut so short, so abrupt, but we see the subject still in its potentially last moments and it captures the climax of the event in the EXACT way I imagine it would occur. Those grey clouds, monochromatic and muted buildings and surroundings are showing me that the entire focus is this one action, and the lighter clouds highlighting exactly the subject to focus on but it isn't just 'pulling the character to attention' it is also conveying the mood. I see that light cloud cover as the hope, the light they were trying to reach yet the scene remains neutral. Unmoving, unemotional. And if the character was indeed shot, it has shown the fate of them as well without having to say a word. UGH I am bad at explaining myself!
This is MY interpretation and I often get lost in details or miss the whole message entirely so if I wrote a stupid story that's totally wrong I'm sorry, that's just how this struck me! I'd never seen your art before and it is beautiful. I applaud you for choosing such a challenging, engaging, and emotional shot from an extreme angle. I feel silly for babbling about how it made me feel and making up some story line but that's what came to my head, perhaps you had a TOTALLY different idea in mind so I'm very sorry, I just ran with ~the feels~ it gave me.
Basically I just want to say this piece moved and inspired me, it conjured emotions that very few art works on this site to and I love your style.
Glorious yet macabre.
