A Dinner of Onions by Dora Harmony Wallace is a chronicle of three generations of an American family. It is wrought with symbolism (there's no way that lighthouse is just a lighthouse, am I right?), and gives voice to the emotions hidden deep within us all ("I am an onion," she said. She needed say no more). The Arlen Book Club brought this novel to my attention, and it is worthy of yours as well. Just watch out for the guy in the orange Mack cap who hangs out in that book store. There's something wrong with him.
