Photos of my firebellied toads I picked up last week along with their tank.I admit fully that they were a complete impulse purchase most definitely brought on by my grandmother’s passing. But, I’m really happy to have them regardless because I think toads (and frogs) are awesome.
Rather than load down the tank with a ton of gravel and stones to make land for them to hang out on, my husband got this crazy idea to use one of those sorting containers with holes on all the sides. This allowed us to put the rocks and pebbles on top of it and the sides. The pvc piping on top is extra support to make sure the bark doesn’t run into the water and create a huge mess. It sticks out like a sore thumb (I know) so I may find some frog moss and try to cover it up. The blue and white container is an old mealworm container thrown in as a temporary hide for the toads. I’ll find something better. For now, it’s better than nothing! The wood on top will be placed into the enclosure tomorrow. It’ll be a bridge or hangout spot for the toads.
The brighter colored ones are supposed to be males while the darker brown one is supposed to be female. Strangely, one of the supposed males turned a darker, almost brownish green when we put him inside the new tank, but brightened up after an hour. I honestly didn’t know they did that. Or maybe.. my toad is a gender-bender?!
Haven’t decided on any names for them as of yet. I’ve been watching a lot of Ranma 1/2 lately, so I keep having the temptation to name the female Akane and the two males Ranma and Ryoga. *snicker*
I really need a better camera. So many things I want to take photos of, but when I do they come out horrible! Going to wish for one for my birthday this year. Don’t know how lucky I’ll get, but that’s what wishes are for? xD
