Purple Martin Chicks (~6 days old)
These are purple martin chicks, about six days old. The image was captured during one of my routine weekend nest checks, using the camera on my phone. I find it's an effective record-keeping method, showing how many chicks are in any given compartment, their relative age and health.
These little guys (or gals, you can't tell at this age) are fat and healthy, the brood of the sole pair of mature martins who called my colony home this season.
I named them Dopey, Sneezy and Ed.
