You guys should make one of those memorial things on the side of the road :)

Honestly, from experience of seeing those, it can be a bad idea. There was one near my house, and it had that silly string stuff all over it one morning. In the kindness of my heart, I did what I could to clean it up. But if that happens, it can happen anywhere. Still don't know who the jerk offs who did that are. Probably some stupid kids bumming around, vandalizing stuff. It was horrible though

well maybe something just like a plaque on a power pole or embeded in the curb?

I dunno, I agree with it, It's just a matter of if an area has a lot of vandals or kids who bum around a lot. And my area has it a lot, sadly.

They could plant a tree, as I know some people do.

I have recently been having you on my mind since I knew soon it would be one year since that bad night that changed so much for you, and I think you not letting what happened stop you, is because you have such a strong spirit. Also it might help with your sadness to think about how lucky those dogs are to have such great strong love from you, even after death, as the strong loving bound one can have with dogs is like nothing else in my opinion.
