So this is a truly epic icon I commissioned form
od
The original is here Theta, 4th ddoc for goodness sake, go favourite it!
He deserves all the praise, no amount of recognition could be enough!
It's based of the opening of Doctor Who from the 70's.
You can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIgq2ClFlrQ
Unfortunately it's too big to be used :(
So od's going to have to cut some sections so I can actually use it as my icon
But I didn't want his astounding work to go to waste.
I originally asked for just a bust of Theta with the crazy background, but he offered to do the entire opening sequence, and there was no way I was going to say no!
I can't recommend him enough: he's been great to work with, asking for feedback and taking on board any changes I've requested.
It's seriously one of the best commissioning experiences I've had.
I'm going to go into a rant about Doctor Who now, so you can stop reading if you're not interested.
So yeah, I'm a massive fan of Doctor Who.
Even before the new series started in 2005, I would rent VHS tapes of the original series from the library.
Which is interesting because demographically I must be in the group least likely to get into it.
It was cancelled the year I was born, so I'm in the generation that never grew up with it.
It wasn't even in reruns by the time I was old enough to watch it.
So how did I get into it?
I blame my Dad, I'm pretty sure he mentioned it in passing and I decided to give it a try
But even then, you would think the less-than-special effects and slow pacing would turn me off.
But I was hooked as soon as I saw this opening.
It looks like nothing else ever made, before or since.
It's the same with the theme music
It doesn't look or sound "sci-fi", but there's no way it's "normal" either
You knew, from the second you saw it, you were watching something different.
Something that wasn't afraid to be a bit weird or different
I've been loving it ever since...

I completely agree. Pertwee was great, when his credits sequence comes up and I see those red flames I just know that I'm going to enjoy every second :)
And yes, I think Tennant is my favourite modern Doctor was well. His stories could be over the top at times but the enjoyment of what he was doing really shone through. I'm also really looking forward to Capaldi as the main thing I didn't like about Mat Smith was is manic-ness, and that will be hard to do with an older doctor. I'm looking forward to some gravitas! (hopefully :P)
Yeah, they have no idea what *real* doctor who fandom is like :P
