This is an update to http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10827943/
Since my previous submission about Rolo he is doing well, however they still have not determined the cause of his rear leg weakness. He has had several tests done including multiple xrays and blood tests as well as being kept in for 12hrs for observation and blood tests every 2hrs and they still have no idea what has caused his condition. His tests are currently showing no abnormalities - the xrays taken (I have copies of these available here - http://imgur.com/a/THV5t#0 ) show no breaks or fractures and have been looked over by two different vets, My vet is currently researching other possible conditions it could be.
Despite living apart from the other ferrets now he is still happy and playful and getting lots of love, he is still mobile despite his condition and likes to amble around the garden for a bit when it's cooler in the evenings (I do this so he gets out of the smaller cage for a bit and can have some enrichment - I keep him on the grass so he doesn't hurt his legs on hard ground). We currently do not know if this will be a permanent thing or not - the vet is happy with his temperament and attitude and he essentially still the same Rolo... just a little bit wonky right now.
Again I would like to thank everyone for their well wishes during this whole thing, if it wasn't for the fantastic people here on FA we would have been unable to pay for his initial tests and would have been forced to have him euthanized without even being able to give him a chance. Now that the excesses have been paid on the insurance further testing and procedures do not carry an excess - sadly though we still need to pay up front (they reimburse us after approx 2 weeks) so I will be reopening for commissions shortly.

I'm pretty sure I know what has happened to him, its a genetic condition that seems to be common in sable ferrets. I only know about it because one of my pet ferrets developed it. At about age 3 we noticed he was not using his back legs as smoothly as usual and took him to the vet. Its not curable and it will slowly get worse, however it didn't seem to bother my ferret much and he lived another 6 years. Lots of exercise really helps!
it wasn't a progressive thing at all, it literally was 5 mins before he was running around then suddenly he was unable to use his legs. I'm sorry if I seem rude about it but I'd rather find a diagnosis via my vet and the specialists rather than someone online. Thank you for your input though.
It wasn't progressive in my ferret either, one day he just suddenly couldn't use his rear legs properley and like you, i thought he had injured himself somehow without me knowing. When I took him to the vet they told me it was a spinal condition, and they were right. It might not be the case with Rolo, best thing to do is maybe ask your vet if its a possibility. Hope they little guy does get better, ferrets are great pets.
