The recent string of Bowser fanart inspired me to give it a try!
This is only a test, so it's a little rough and simple, but I like how it turned out. Drawing Bowser is a real challenge, but eventually I'll get accustomed to drawing him.
As for the Bowser fanart trend, I like where it's heading and I fully endorse it.
Bowser belongs to Nintendo.

Your rendition of him blows mine completely out of the water, as if that even needs to be said. [x There’s so much personality in his expression and thought gone into his body structure. The combination of muscular arms and chubby everything else seems most appropriate for this character (I’ve never understood where some people get the idea of him having a bodybuilder-like torso); you’ve made him look nicely rounded and hulky with your placement of lighting tones. I still can’t get over how you acquire the patience to use all of those colours. It’s not like you just set a white brush to a semi-opaque setting and paint over and over (doesn’t look like it here, anyway), there’s subtle variation of hues in there which I find very appealing.
I’m always looking forward to see which character you apply your charming drawing style to next. I've pretty much exhausted any interesting things to say about your style, but its uniqueness will always be able to speak for itself.

Green, man, I think your comments are the most fun to read on this site.
You and aster are at like, different ends of the style spectrum. But I think BOTH sides can be praised. I really like here how even though this drawing is so loose and painterly, the dark black outlines that you normally associate with older sprites in video games and some newer illustrations from mario (I think the soccer game used a style similar) Offer the cartoony look that bowser's always had.
While most of your stuff is very TIGHT and precise. I can't believe that your rendition of bowser started off, as you phrased it, "a quick doodle". All the lines, color, and lighting in the piece have a calculated and stable look to them. Suffice to say, I enjoy your style! It's fun and light is on the same footing as Aster Marion, who gets the job done in a completely different way!

Honestly, it did start life as a doodle, but my anal side kicked in and began to refine it over and over. :[
And agreed about the styles. Aster seems to have a more loose but incredibly confident approach to his work (similar can be said about your style, and the sketchy lines you use to somehow create a look that's quite neat and controlled), and I love how he applies shading and lighting tones.
It's a whole world of different styles we live in~

Thank you for your in-depth comments as always, Greening! I'm happy that the body structure seems right to you, because it was one of my main goals. Though to be honest, I feel that it lacks uniqueness a bit. Your version of Bowser had a bit more personality and expression to it. I'm hoping to revisit drawing Bowser in the future, and try something with a little more character than the standard GRARR expression often (though fittingly) associated with him.
There's something about his wide pose and expression, as if he's approaching the viewer with that imposing glare I've known him for since Mario 64, that works very well, and that you've captured brilliantly. It seems more in-line to his personality than mine, which was meant to be more comical than anything. xD But thank you!
While I think this piece is very solid work, another Bowser definitely couldn't hurt~ I may very well follow suit at one point.

I was originally going to draw his eye in, but I opted to leave it out at the very end, thinking that it would keep his head from looking too refined in comparison to the rest of his body. But looking back on it, it seems more like an excuse I made to get this done more quickly!
