This will be scrapped later, but for now I 'm going to leave it in my gallery. C:
I started this little guy a few days ago, but I definitely put the most work into him yesterday... I first baked him without any eyes, fur, or scales - only his horn and bare body. After he'd had time to cool off, I started his lovely mane. It was a severe fugly mess at that point (as they always are XD), gave him that long trail of back fluff, and then added a basic tail poof. After that is where the real work began... I probably spent about 3 hours applying scales - individually, in layers - and then detailed and shaped up his fur and gave him eyes. He got a nice brush-over with some clay softener to remove any lingering fingerprints or messy areas, and I added a little extra fluff inside his ears...can't really see the ear fluff in these photos, but it's there! This is definitely the most detailed sculpt I've done so far, and I'd honestly like to try more like this in the future... maybe a gryphon or a baby dragon next time. CX
Anyway, I just wanted to share this WIP! I've been working on the inks for latiro's commission, but my arm started to ache and flare up yesterday. Since it didn't get better after resting it, I decided to work on my kirin. He still has a long paint job ahead once the epoxy (the white stuff on his tail) is cured, but I really look forward to it! I also kinda lost his adorable little hooves under all the leg/foot fluff by the time I was done, but it's cute...so I'll probably just leave it as it is. xD;
Also, I am open to colour suggestions for his paint job. I already have a few ideas - pearlescent white body with soft pastel colour accents on the scales, red and black (red body, black fur/accents, gold or orange eyes), night sky (a deep, almost-black navy with starry/celestial patterns), and a nice pale silver with darker silver/grey fur and icy blue eyes... Basically, I want him to be beautiful! There are plenty of things that would look nice that I just haven't thought of yet, so feel free to drop any ideas here in a comment if you like. C:

Project info:
This was made with a combination of Super Sculpey and Super Sculpey Firm, over a wire armature (bulked with foil and wrapped in floral tape so the clay sticks better), and was baked twice at 275°F for 15 minutes each time. There was no browning or burning (yay!), and I added a little bulk to his tail fluff using white Ave's Apoxie.

It'd be so awesome to see more clay works on FA... I've always loved sculpting, and I hope to keep improving and learning new techniques. I used to offer sculpture commissions a long time ago, but I never really got them often enough to keep at it. When interest died down completely, I pretty much took a break from clay and switched back to traditional and digital art for commissions - I only sculpted stuff for myself here and there if I felt like it, and sometimes I would post pictures... Never really had anyone asking about clay commissions anymore, so I just left them closed. Recently I've been really enjoying working with clay again, though, so I might re-open that commission option again someday. X3
But anyway, thank you tons - I'll post more pictures once he's done!! <3
