Whenever someone draws a character that has wings, and the wings don't have elbows, this is what I think of. That person now lost their elbows to their arms, so they just stick out there.
THEY ARE USELESS. THEY ARE UGLY. THEY DO NOT WORK. WINGS HAVE ELBOWS.
TREAT A WING LIKE AN ARM. THEY PRETTY MUCH ARE, ANYWAYS. DON'T LEAVE OUT THE ELBOW. IT'S CRUCIAL. OH MY GOSH.
Yes, this stemmed from me seeing yet ANOTHER amazing piece of work ruined for me because of the wings with no elbow.
JUST LOOK AT BATS. LOOK AT THEM. IT TAKES A SECOND.

You mean something like this?:
wing body wing

I know it's not very explanatory but compare it to:
wings just slant into the body

or
wing magically melts into body
