Supposedly, After experiencing a lot of garbage in life, The hero in question, My character, Becomes a cynic.

Previously, When he liberated a sex-slave camp that brutalizes little girls, He would simply round up the culprits responsible, And turn them over to the authorities.
And, Keeping with the style of Chinese martial arts, Would use an elegant Wushu sword fighting style, Using the "jian".
And of course, He was unfailingly polite and cheerful all the time, And fussed over a mere papercut
That was a long time ago....
Now, When doing the exact same thing, He would douse the slavers in animal fat, Impale them on stakes, And set them alight.
He traded his sword in, For an axe, Shovel, Hammer, Bowie knife, Mace etc etc......And fights like a savage demon.
Curses and swears now, He even pulled out a dagger out of his abdomen, Sterilized the wound with alcohol, And stitched it without a fuss.

Impaling and setting people on fire would probably gain him a taste of his own medicine -- followed by an express, ungentle (but precise) healing. According to Elisa, death penalty is practically never justifiable(*) and torture is absolutely out of question.
(*)The only condition is when a given person creates a clear, constant risk impossible to mitigate in any other way -- a lich or vampire would be an example.
