So what is Gank again?
Gank is an ongoing interactive webcomic about sky pirates that glide above a sea of toxic miasma in a land of sorcery and swashbuckling and their tendencies to get into regrettable scenarios when food becomes scarce. While it does have a guiding plot and a mystery to uncover it is largely open-ended, allowing the readers to determine which direction the story will go in and how its characters will react to the resulting events. Every new page will bring a new quandary to confront, and how wisely you make your decision will decide just how far you can venture into the dangerous airs of Areth in search of the treasure that waits for you just beyond the horizon...
Oh, so its another one of those Choose-Your-Own-Adventure things?
Well, yes and no.
Yes: Every page of Gank will await audience participation to determine what the characters take next. While voting is open, readers will have a chance to either suggest a course of action or support an existing comment. When voting closes I will read and categorize all of these suggestions, and whichever action gathered the most support will be the one the characters take in the following page. I will try my best to choose an action that best encapsulates the reader’s desires, but this is a system of human input and compromise, so things will not always be black and white and I may have to tweak or combine some suggestions. Because of this I will always lean towards the most positive outcome: My alterations to your suggestions will never hinder the progress of the main characters or their goals. When leveling characters, I will weigh all numerical suggestions and apply the most popular choices first.
No: While you are technically choosing your own adventure, the choice of actions you can take are completely open-ended, limited only by the popular support of your fellow readers. There are also be role-playing elements involved, including inventory management, character leveling, and a combat system. Battles will be decided by strategy, with your characters’ strengths and weaknesses on clear display, and whether they succeed or fail will be entirely up to you, the audience, and not the fickle whims of the writer behind the scenes.
A battle system huh? That sounds interesting. Can I learn more?
Of course! You can find a link to the Gank Role-Playing System Guide at the bottom of the description.
You’re gonna want money from this thing, right?
Yeees..? While technically Gank is non-profit, I am accepting donations. How much support Gank gets will determine how much I can re-invest back into the series, and I would like nothing more than to commit to it full-time. But I can not do that without support. I also know people don’t want to throw their money at things without getting some serious stuff back in return, so I’m proud to say that Gank has a unique reimbursement system in place to reward you for your contributions.
Money donated to Gank will do two things, meaning your dollar is doubling up on itself. Talk about a quality investment! The first thing your money does is teleport straight into the world of Areth, depositing into a treasure chest in the form of rubies, where it waits for the Gank crew of your choice to find! This means that the very next treasure chest they find will reward them with that amount of rubies. If they fail in acquiring a treasure chest then don’t worry, your rubies will just move to the next one. There is no way to lose rubies that have been donated, but they must be acquired by the characters before it can be spent. Rubies can be spent in a variety of ways in Gank. They can be cashed in for gold doubloons or they can be spent at Giney Jones’ Locker on stats and other special options, like character saves.
Money donated to Gank will also earn slots in the Perversion Pool, the rules of which can be found here: [Link Upcoming]
Please remember that contributing to Gank is not a traditional commission system. If you want a straight-forward commission within a short period of time look at my Commissions Page here: [Link Upcoming]
You mentioned Vore. Is this going to be one of those things for perverts?
Yes. The content on FA will never be too extreme for younger audiences, but the priority of all incarnations of Gank are vore and other fetish-related content. I intend for the project’s FA incarnation to be perfectly appropriate and enjoyable for all audiences, even ones that are ignorant of certain peoples’ particular interests, however there will be a lot of vore (and other) content and likely a great deal of discussion about that content in the comments. If you are easily offended about this content, for whatever reason, then consider yourself formally warned.
If there’s Vore there’s usually digestion. Can characters die?
Yes. Even though there is magic in the realm of Areth, it has not yet advanced to the level of resurrection spells. It is also a plot point that nobody that ventures deeper than two fathoms into the miasma covering the world returns, so it goes without saying that if a character does that they are gone forever. So it is possible to lose a main character permanently. Even though death is a possibility, you can still do something to prevent it. There is a ‘save’ system in Gank. Characters that have a save are guaranteed safe from an immediate death. If they are ever in periled for whatever reason there will be a significant window of opportunity made available to the audience to save them, however they will have to act wisely and move quickly enough to save the character before this window of opportunity is closed. Once that occurs the character is again in mortal danger. Characters can only have one save available at a time and they are earned through a variety of means, most commonly via purchase at Giney Jones’ Locker.
So... are there two Ganks or am I just as drunk as you were last night?
There are. Off the starboard side you’ll find the crew of The Fancy Yarn setting sail in the calmer breeze of Fur Affinity [link], and over the port side The Bolas ventures into the darker waters of Eka’s Port...al [link]. Gank on FA will be safe for all audiences, while Gank on Eka’s will have some more mature stories to tell. They are both entwined by the thread of the fates, though to what capacity it has yet to be revealed...
