This is the only take I've done of Smudge's
Smudge character Desert Rose. Having learned some valuable lessions with "White Knight" I conducted a bit more research on Knucklehead Harleys before starting on this piece. Overall I'm rather happy with this picture, in particular I'm satisified with how the Harley Davidson logo came out on the tank. Image size 11"x 14". Medium color pencil, gouache, and some marker and micron pen.

I could fill this box with all kinds of swear words and superlatives, but it wouldn't even begin to express my awe at the brilliance of that.
I'm even impressed at my eyes. I didn't think they were capable of conveying something so amazing through something as tasty as an optic nerve.

No, but it was bike like this that did inspire Harley designer Willie G. when he set out to design the Fatboy decades later. The bike here is a 1941 FL Deluxe Model Harley Davidson. It is the last model year built before production was stopped due to WWII. It has a Knucklehead motor in unlike the the Fatboy of the Ninties which has run various flavors of the Evolution, or Evo, motor.
Bikes take time unfortunately. Only sailing ships and tracked armored vehicles have as much surface complexity and perspective hoop-jumping involved in them. Especially if spoked wheels are involved, and if you get it wrong even people who are not savvy to them know that something is off. That is why I rarely do them except for commission because people rarely want to pay what they cost. The final piece took me about 30 hours to complete, but there was about an additional 8 hours of preliminary sketching and research before I even approached the bristol board to start on it.
Once again, this is very relevant to my interests. Big, beautiful bikes and the even more beautiful girls who ride them. African wild dogs are one of my favorite canid species, and you're spot on with the bike. I love those old Harleys and Indians.
She's just gorgeous-- I'm normally a lone biker wolf, but I'd follow her anywhere. :3
