An artist's prices reflect a combination of things like time spent, the rate they get for other things they might otherwise spend their time doing, the degree to which they're doing commissions for fun or profit, and also, for some artists, as a means of limiting their availability; whether people pay whatever rate they're charging depends on how appealing the art is, how collectable it is as an investment, how reliable the artist is, and whether they can afford it: That can mean that if an artist's style becomes very popular, their work can fetch quite astonishing prices.
About twenty years ago, Terrie Smith (look her up on Wikifur) had pieces going for well more than $150, but while I bought the odd print of hers, my tastes run more feral so I never commissioned her. In contrast, a few years later when it was still a lot more money than it is today, Boris Vallejo quoted me over $4000 for a 15"x20" oil portrait of one of my characters, and at the time I had the disposable income and inclination to commission him - and not particularly because his work is considered Fine Art by collectors but because he was the only person I could think of at the time doing fantasy art at the level I wanted. He cancelled due to currency transfer problems: PayPal being too new-fangled back then. I subsequently had the piece painted by someone else for considerably less, with great skill in imagining the lighting effects, but whose anatomy was too stylised. Now I'm approaching someone more skilled in anatomy for the same commission with those lighting effects as an example realisation, and it's going to be more like $120.
So for the fandom, for your pocket, it may seem like a lot, and a painting from latex is a commission I would have to deliberately save up for now, given my additional financial responsibilities these days, but latex's paintings are, like a fair few artists on here, at or near book-cover quality, and by and large, they charge well below book cover rates.

It's not a class thing, just economics: whatever someone does for a living, it needs to feed and house them while giving then time to sleep and otherwise recharge their batteries.
Minimum wage in the UK is roughly equivalent to $10. I'm fairly sure Latex spends a good fraction of 15 hours working on one odd these paintings.

i have schizophrenia and even i know how to keep my mouth shut your not just buying art your buying a piece of someones life all the blood sweat and tears that got them this far all the mistakes and hardships. and for something that takes a month for someone to do $180 is nothing
Very interested. Pretty quality work, and for the price, not too bad for how long i'd think you spend on these.
Sadly, im in a bit of a financial rut, but hopefully within a few months i could bother you for a commission of my wolf? Guess i'll just send a message your way when i can afford it.
Quality work though, keep up the good job!

Let's say the character I want to be drawn is a grey male unicorn (physical form)
He is an illusionist that is able to manipulate peoples dreams and perception.
His spirit is a ghostly black horse that could leave his physical body.
I'm thinking about him sitting in a pose of meditation while his "ghost" slips out of him or standing behind him.
Does something like that raise the price a bit? I'm willing to discuss about that.
Don't have any revs yet, but I'll send a better description after we agreed.

Cant fall asleep at night with no reasons. I will leave for US for the graduate program alone and could not come back China in one or two years.
I explore your gallery again, paying much attention to the canvas and 110usd-like paintings. I know I will go for you for a 110usd art one day as those 110arts are amazing to express the inner emotions. Just like a silent storry with backup words...
Still wonder the 110usd-art is canvas or digital arts? Cuz its so realistic...
Well, im hesitating whether to apply for loans for an 110 art. A little bit hard for a student yet...

I see the 110usd art is like a realistic style. I wonder whether my character can be fit into this commission?
And do I have to have a reference sheet? Until now I can only have the head of him with details and color despite the rest of the body is open to draw. I know the 110 art are mostly just part of the character.

Hello there! Wonderful work! I love your detail and time, and I think the price of 50+ for a full body is wonderful. The reference photo up above is gorgeous and pretty darn close to what I've been looking for if I could bother you for a commission for my Panther character Erebos. She's featured on my page currently. Would you be interested or have the time? Erebos is a reptilian Panther that puddle jumps from shadow to shadow and her scales are shiny like Raven feathers (phasing from the black to blue to green). The scales on her are raised slightly like a crocodiles with a ridge of spines down the center of her back and a long reptilian tail. I'd love to see her in a anthro state emerging out of a shadow puddle on a wall, pulling the shadows behind her like stretched latex and have her coming towards the screen. I know....I'm a pain -,-

Yes, it's called underselling. This hurts artists. ALL artists. The fact that you now believe art should be cheaper overall because you found an artist who sells for less is proof that it does. The result? More artists feel forced to lower their prices even further because they're guilted into "changing their mindset" by people who feel entitled to cheaper art. Until eventually you have artists selling full paintings for $20 and unable to pay for their basic needs.
TL;DR: Don't guilt artists into charging less than they deserve and need.
